need help dowel pin

Default need help dowel pin

i pulled my head of back in november so i could re thread the header bolt holes and i am just now getting around to it, i have a few problems tho, one i lost one of the dowel pins and have looked every where for it, is it that big of a deal can i get away with using just the one alignment dowel, and if not where can i find one, my second problem is there is water in the head bolt holes that turned to ice any suggestions on how to get the ice out thanks

LS: GM P/N 12570326 - $3/ea @ SDPC
BBC: GM P/N 12558081 - $1.60/ea @ SDPC

The BBC parts are a tad shorter, but work fine. I'd suggest checking with your local parts stores (ie: NAPA) or GM dealer.

Getting the ice out of the bolt holes is the least of your problems. If you didn't remove the coolant drain plugs from both sides of the engine, that water is now frozen. This can crack the cylinder block.

what do you mean the engine coolant is frozen??

If you had just water in the rad, then you removed the heads without draining the block, and some of the water ran into the head bolt holes and then froze. Then the same water that is in the engine is also frozen which can crack the block.

no i have antifreeze in the radiator, the water dripped down from the hood cowl and got in the bolt hole or from snow melting
