Default Big cam as a daily driver

Who's doing it, MN6 particularly with the LG Gx5, MTI X1 or TR230/224?

Are they pretty livable with good tuning, i.e. start easily, idle well enought to rarely stall?

It has to be reliable, is this realistic? Thanks in advance.

G5-X2 with an A4 in a 2002 Z28. Making 435 at the rear. It's my daily driver. Long hauled the Power Tour last month. Idles at 950, 1100 with the a/c on. Never overheats in traffic. Starts very easy but hunts for an idle for about 15 seconds or so then settles down to a steady idle. I am very happy with the cam. I love the sound at idle. The performance is great also but with close to 600 horsepower on the juice it should be. Mileage could be better but I really don't care with this level of driveability and performance.

Well I have the TR 224 on 112 pretty close to the TR 230. I still need some tuning but all and all it is good. I am thinking about the TR230 in a couple months.

99' Formula A4 4000 vig, Stage 2 Heads, X1 cam, Mti tuning....car cranks right up and idles perfectly even with the A/C on. I drive it everyday back and forth to work with no issues. Car's gas mileage isn't really affected except when the AC is turned on then it drops a good 5mpg. Other than that I love it and wouldn't change anything.

Jayson can tune the sh*t out of these cars.

I have the G5X-2 in my daily driven 99 T/A (m6). I have some mild tuning done so far, but even before the tune, it was pretty amazing how drive able it was. Cold and warm starts were great. Would settle right into idle. On hot starts it would search for a couple of seconds and then settle. Gas mileage really doesn't seem to have suffered, except when the a/c is on, like said above.

I had the F1, now I have a TSP 231/237 .598/.595 in a 6 speed car and my car is my daily driver. I have no problems at all with mine - with either cam. Once you tune it enough that it will hold an idle, there are no problems at all.

I've got the TR224 112 with S2 heads and minor tuning; I find the car EASIER to drive than stock to be honest.

Wow, great to hear. Sounds like the only drawback is valve spring changes every year or two.

I have a 228/234 .510 on a 114 LSA with stock heads and tuning, and it's still temperamental. Not sure I'd want the car to be my daily driver, especially in stop and go traffic. I can still stall it on occasion, still have some surging, rough idle, all the common things associated with a large duration traditional split. On warm starts, it takes a minute or so for the car to find it's idle. But, on the other hand, I didn't really like driving with the MN6 in stop and go traffic even before the cam, so it's really up to you what your preferences are.

I have the TR230/224 in an A4. Car starts right up and idles great in gear even with AC. Only issue is gas mileage, I can't keep my lead foot out of it!

I had a 232/236 114 and I had it idle fine at 975 but had some minor cam surge when the converter locked at very low rpm (below 1300). I could tune it out, but I had too much cruise contrtol effect from that and I got tired of having higher lock-up points. Now I have a 228/288 114 now. Works well and my idle is lower. If I had a M6, I would have kept the 232 cam.

581/581 224/224 114 LSA is my cam, on an M6 the car is driveable, but tuning is strongly recommended.

I have a big cam and you can ask anyone who has been in my car. It idles better than any TR224 cam and It is much bigger..

It sounds like the key is getting a good tune.

Tuning is critical without a doubt.

My car as a custom SRP-224 with XE-R lobes. Car idles very well with the MTI tuning. With the gears it's actually easier to drive now that it was before, even in stop and go. In fact it's so driveable I wonder what a 226/226 or X1 would have been like.
