Comp 230/230/112 and G5X2 Comparison
Here are two cars that I recently tuned. Both were 2001 WS6 Trans-am's with identical bolt-on's (Hooker LT / ORP, Magnaflow, Lid, stock pulley, TB) so it made for a great comparison. First one was a 230/230/112 XE-R Comp with REV double springs. Other is a G5X2 cam with the same springs. Both cars were tuned the same way on the same dyno. A/F was 12.9:1 flat.
Both of these guys were extremely happy with the results and both report that the cars are a pleasure to drive with no surging or hot start problems (got those two worked out ). Both of these cars made more power than some head and cam packages tuned on this dyno. The dyno shop is is a Ford shop and the owner now says now that he see's this much power from cam only LS1's, he throws rocks at his Mustangs at night

That looks very interesting.Wonder why the LGM didnt make any more power than the 230/230 cam? So I am guessing the LGM cam in my car wouldnt make any more power than I already do...Something is not adding up.It would be interesting to test that cam in my car.

For stock headed cars that is nice! Might have to switch out cams now, again. Bad thing is I dont even have this one tuned yet...more power.. Both are M6 huh?

Both cars are M6's with stock 3.42 gears, stock clutches. Lift on the Comp 230 is 0.591 both sides. Not sure what it is on the G5 as I didn't install it.

I don't think that is a very good comparison. Unless you try out both cams in the same car.
The way one car runs/dynos over another, be it stock for stock or mod for mod, can be as different as night and day.

Power is near identical for the two cam's.. I'll opt for the smaller 230/230 with less driveability problems than the larger G5X-2 cam.

Drive ability has a lot to do with the ICL # of the cam. Not sure what it is on the G5X-2. Lou keeps that hush hush. That is what makes that came as drive able as it is, for being such a big cam, even with the stock programing.

I drove both cars and both are very streetable in my opinion. Don't rule out the affectiveness of a good tune to tame a big cam. Most guys with big cams complain about surge and hot start problems. I've been able to tune most if not all of these issues out.

Re: Comp 230/230/112 and G5X2 Comparison
Someone else hit the nail right on the head... The G5X2 was designed with ported heads (specifically, LG's heads) in mind, rather than as a generic cam that will get you most of the way there regardless of your setup.
In other words, IMO, using the G5X2 on a cam only car is sort of using it out of its element, as opposed to the more generic 230/230 Comp piece that is neither in nor out of its element, so to speak. That's certainly not to say that the G5X2 is a poor choice for a cam only car, just that it is optimized for use with ported heads.
Just my $.02...
