Default Double Roller fitment issues?

I am about to do a cam swap on a 01 t/a. I have a double roller timing chain and an slp oil pump. I have heard that the timing cover may not fit because of the double roller timing chain? if so, what can i do to make the cover fit?

I have the rollmaster double roller timing set and didn't have any fitment issues at all. It came with a couple of shims to push the oil pump out a hair for some clearance, maybe 1/16"? I have however heard of other people having problems but I'm not sure what brand it is or what they did to fix it.

as along as you use the new oil pump bolts they give you with the timing set, you should be ok. Some people do and don't have issues.

thanks for the replies. and it is a jp double roller timing chain. I hope i am lucky enough to not have fitment issues. Has anyone used this brand timing chain that could tell me if they had fitment issues? and if you did, how you fixed it?

thanks

Probably different but when I did my cam swap I installed a new SLP oil pump and Rollermaster double chain. I had a lot of fitment issues. We had to grind the **** out of the cover to fit it in. If I had it to do over again I would have went to a hardware store and picked up some button head allen bolts to hold the oil pump together. I had more a problem with the timing cover hitting the bolt heads.

well i am hoping i will not have a problem if i use the bolts that come with the chain (like JPH said above) but if it comes down to it, its nice to know different bolts or grinding the cover are two options

You may want to have the extra bolts on hand just in case. You usually end up needing them when every store is closed. You can always return them if they go unused.

luckly i have my engine still on the stand-i tried a comp. double roller chain, and a melling 296 pump-w/o the front cover gasket, i was about 1/8" from fitting-i removed the front plate off the pump (you have to anyway to line up the oil pump with the crank drive) and it fit a little better, so i ground on the cover a little here and there, but still off to far-i tried bolting on the stock pump, and the cover fit-was close, esp in the area of the pump intake where the tube fit up, which i had prev. clearanced
some guys have made this setup work, but a lot of grinding-i have kind of come to the conclusion, you can use the double roller (with spacers) and a stock depth pump, or a single roller chain and the thicker melling pump(296)
one of the gm pumps has thicker gears, not sure how that would work with a double roller chain
i have decided to use the single roller chain, and am going to use the melling 296 pump-if the motor is in the car, i can see where it would be hard to see all the areas of interference, esp the pickup tube, as all i did was spin my motor upsude down on the engine stand
when i build my stroker motor, i will revisit this, but for now i need to get it together-sorry for the long post, too much coffee this morn-lol

Would have been nice to hear how it went...don't you think?
Especially since I did install a double-roller and TSP LS6 pump and I am having all kinds of problems.

I have the slp pump and double roller chain. There are no issues with the fit. No grinding required. DO NOT use the shims if you have a slp pump. It is already machined for the double roller. If you use the shims it will put you into the cover.

Yeah. It's called exhumation and resuscitation. AKA "raising the dead"
