Default Help with TR 224 cam install

I am going to put a TR 224/224 .561/.561 on a 114 lsa
Will I be able to drive the car for a few weeks before I get the car tune? And what should I do until I get the Edit like drill the t-body hole larger?
Need more money to buy LS1 edit

The car is a 2001 Z28 A-4 with bolt-ons

Thanks for the help
Rob

My car's not an A4, but it ran great with that cam and no tuning; not even rich (according to the stock O2s.) If it wants to die at stops just slam it into neutral just before you stop. Another trick is to flip the idle stop screw over or just put a longer screw in. You can put that back once you get it tuned.

Yes, it may very surge and die, especially if you have the stock 600rpm idle. Mine stock was 550 and it does not like idling at all there, new Predator idle is 650, decent idle with an 11/64" drill bit to the TB. My friends 02' did not like to idle at 650 with the same size hole, so maybe its car per car. Driving is great, i love the mid range and bottom end, but w/out tuning I cant comment on a strong pulling top end. I gained 4mph in the 8th, but absolutely nothing in the qtr? So, each car is different, if you got a while before buying edit, drill it. You can still tune around the drilled TB anyway.

Good-luck n have fun

Charlie.

Even if you get it tuned or get LS1edit, you may have to drill it anyway because the IAC count will be close to maxed out under some conditions. If you have access to Autotap or EFILive you can drill one size at a time until the counts are in the 30-40 range. Or leave the stock hole alone and drill an aditional hole 1/8" diameter and you will be pretty close with a TR224.

well lets see.. i installed mine about 30mins from my house and I thought I would never get her home! every stop light I came to she cut off unless I held the brake and gave her gas at stops. Its was a friggin PITA. That cam isnt gonna like the stock idle in a A4, espically with stall.

once you bump the idle to 850-950, drill the TB hole and maybe turn the TB set screw she will be a completly different ride. Just dont get ticked cause it runs and surges like hell at stock idle.

to help you for the part time you can drill the TB a few sizes and turn the set screw 1-2 turns. Good thing about the set screw is you can tuen that back to stock when you riase your idle. But the cars gonna want more air and higher idle

What is the issue if the IAC's are high. I didn't drill, my idle is good. But my IAC's are around 100

The IAC can only go to 128, so if you're at 100 right now, there may not be enough left to maintain the programmed idle speed under less favorable conditions. I haven't drilled mine yet, but it's at 114 to maintain my idle speed of 950 rpm in 100 degree weather. I'm sure it won't be able to maintain that at cold startup on a cold winter day around here.
