Default Paging Patman!

What are your thoughts on the Bosch oil filters? I picked one up today, part #3423 I believe. I cross referenced it to a Delco PF58 since I run 6 quarts of oil. It said someting on the box about a special "Filtrech" system, or something of that nature. lol

Oh well, just wanted your opinion on it. I picked it up because they were outta PF58's, and I didn't want to run an STP, and I didn't want to pay the money for a K+N or a Mobil 1. Which both were like $12. I know, I'm a cheap-****!

The Bosch Premium filter is actually pretty restrictive to oil flow, much like the Mobil 1. You would've been better off with the STP, which flows a lot better. Also, the Walmart Supertech filter is actually a rebadged STP! So for $2 you could've gotten a better filter. I still prefer the K&N though, these filters flow very well.

What's the best filter for the money then at one of the local parts houses, e.g.; AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts, O'Reily, Napa, and Wal-Mart.

Keep in mind though, I'm still not willing to drop down $10-$12 on these filters. I've had this car since new, and now, 82K miles later, I've always used a PF58, so I really doubt swapping to a different brand filter is going to make that much of a difference.

What are your opinions on this?

Thanks!

If you're not willing to drop $10 to $12 on a filter, then go with something like the Wix/NAPA Gold or the STP/Supertech filter.

Robert, if you've been around the net this long, you know that Slick 50 sucks, so I'm not even going to bother typing up a huge response to that loaded question.

Patman, real question...

Have you any information/opinion on TORCO oils? Also, the TORCO canister filter, with replacbale cartridges? Heard the pitch from the sales guy and figure I cant recall anyone asking about here.

TIA.

Charlie.

I have heard of Torco oils, however I know nothing about them. I've never seen any technical specs on it, nor do I know anyone who has tried it.

I also don't know about their replaceable cartridges, but it sounds like the CM racing replaceable filter, those types of filters flow very well, but are also very expensive too.

Well the intial set up is $90, but the guy said the cartrdiges filter down to 8micron, cant remember the flow rate he gave but seemed really good, he said the cartridge has so much more filter area it is recommended to change like every 6k or so, and only $8. And those are Hawaii prices! I know TORCO is popular with the turbo'ed imports.

That sounds like the CM racing setup, the inital cost is about $90 to $120 for the unit, then the replacement cartridges are around $10 give or take. They do flow extremely well, so it's probably the ultimate setup you can have, it's just a bit of a PITA since the cartridges need to be special ordered and you can't just go down to the local parts store to get them. (unless you have a local source for them, then you're in business!)
