Hi Kingsey,

Your Buddy is not fully aware that the lobe intensity of the TR 224 is 50 and intensity of the XE-R is 49. So as far as them being gentler, no not by any margins.
The XE-R being a tad more aggressive in lobe design will make a few ponies more all else equal
The specs i gave you will make more than TR or XE-R all else equal. and a set of duals likle PP golds would take care of any of them .

I DD a 224/222 117 in a 12:1 compression 6.1 L with those lobes and not a single issue, except for the jaw drops when i kill bigger cams with the superstealth effect.

(BTW TR or TSP can grind the specs I gave you so they would not loose a sale depending on who you choose. )

I have used 918s with .612 XE-R lifts at 1.80 height install (on Z06 heads), so they will handle a lot just install properly and run titanium retainers.

Buy the time you spend the money on 918's and titanium retainers you could use the Patriot Golds that come with new seats, seals, locks & titanium retainers for under $240.00 plus they are a dual versus single spring. 50% more insurance if for some reason a spring breaks. A better value IMHO

I was thinking of doing the TR224 with the PRC 5.3 2.5 heads, sounds like i should consider your cam with these heads. My car will never see the strip so i'm looking for the most low end and mid-range power. I want a torque curve that comes on strong early.

Read this thread:

I was almost going to switch out my tr224 for a torquer v2 until I read this.
