thats the beauty of the M6, fun to drive & good gas milage

with the stock 3.42 gearing i was getting a 30 mpg average on the highway with hotcam, full exhaust, and a tune. to calculate it i would fill up the tank, get on the highway and drive 4 hours to my parent's house and fill up again as soon as i got off the highway, then i'd calculate the milage
my import friends couldn't believe it, twice the hp with the same mpg.

I get about 21mpg avg per tank and I drive mostly highway for my commute. I recently got efilive (v1, scan only) and it can log instantaneous MPG. I tried to do some data logging on the highway in 6th with cruise control at different speeds and was going to post the info. Problem is around here the highways are rarely flat, usually a gradual up or downhill. I think it was about 28mpg at 70mph on a flat stretch. On gradual down it was maybe 40 and gradual up was 18. The v2 efilive has a LCD screen so you could view the data real time where I had to 'black box' log and then read it later which made it harder to match the data with where I was at the time. When the weather improves I'll try to find a flat stretch and get some good logs.

I get 30 on the highway in 6th gear.

Beaflag VonRathburg: that's not average, that's just on the highway. I only get like 16 average when I drive in the city mainly.

BlackScreaminMachine: the reason you didn't get better is because you had 4.10's on it, with stock gears, you probably would have gotten 30 also.

I averaged 32.8mpg on the last 90mi trip (all freeway) I made. This was in my 99 FRC M6 with 3.42 gears. Car is pretty much stock.

Yeah, I'd love to know how everyone is getting 30+ mpg without advanced fuel saving techniques. If I recall, with the skip-shift on a bone stock M6, the average highway MPG was 27 mpg for the EPA standard test.

Bone stock on the highway, I was probably good for 25 mpg, now my best on the highway is close to 21 - 22. My blended mix of highway and city driving typically nets me around 15 mpg.

I averaged 27mpg on my last road trip. But it was 99% interstate crusing at 70mph and 1800 rpm with m6 and 4.10s. City driving, maybe 14 mpg.

The thing is most that are posting these high mpg figures on "trips". This is a peak mpg and not what they normally get with everyday driving.

Exactly...

My 32.8mpg average was only on a return trip from somewhere we met. I TRIED hard to get as good of mileage as I could get. I just wanted to see what kind of mpg I could squeeze out of a V8.

With regular driving on the freeway or mixed driving I could never get that, and I don't think anyone else could either. On the highway, I would get 26-28mpg normally.

I assumed this was about highway driving. Anyone who thought those of us posting these numbers as our averages is retarded.

And for what its worth, the numbers I posted in my first post was not exactly trying too terribly hard. Both times average speed was about 70-75. The 32mpg trip had one 4th gear burst (not all the way through 4th, just gave it enough to pass a couple cars). The 27-28mpg trip included 15 minutes of 100-110mph and some slow driving at 35-45 for a little while through a few small towns in Minnesota.

Both trips were how I typically drive on the highway, no different, so those were my "highway" mileage numbers, for any sustained period of time. Another amazing thing that I doubt you'll believe if you already doubt the numbers is that I'm still on my original 120k-mile O2 sensors

My buddy got 30.5mpg in his (stock at the time) 6speed LT1 car with 3 people in the car and the A/C on down to Bowling Green one year. He got 420 miles out of one tank and put 13 and some odd gallons in to fill it up. He was also driving 70-75.

I guess I should clarify this as meaning these are average highway numbers, not mixed driving average. I have no way of measuring my "peak" mpg like the C5 owners can. So these are numbers derived from a 600-mile trip.
