My car will come our of storage when the snow melts, around mid-April. I'll take your MPG test, but I can handle math. I agree about your 30 MPG comments. You get 30 MPG, you don't deserve these cars. I have a 4 banger '97 Ganda Am that gets 30 mpg on the highway and about 26 combined. I'm also venture a guess that the 30 mpg guy only have 6 spark plugs. Counting may be the math problem.

My 99 Formula got 31 mpg highway with the windows up and AC on. I drove it up to my camp and back without driving too aggressively at an average speed of about 45mph. This was a 6M 3.23 with a lid and K&N.

My GTP would get 32+mpg on the same trip with a 3200 stall converter, XP cam, headers and exaust.

I get 11-15 city in my t/a. 21 highway. This is a cammed ls1, m6, 3.42, boltons.

My Z/28 gets about the same with an a4, stock lt1, couple boltons, 2.73s.

What gives?

Please post what speed you usually use on the freeway along with your mileage.

I get ~21 on both my cars at 75-80 mph.

I got 12.6 mpg in mixed driving taking it easy on the car w/ stock heads and a big cam. This was at about 126,000 miles. I probably get closer to 10 mpg the way that I normally drive. Not sure on highway only...

damn guys I could beat the **** out of my car daily and still pull better than 10-12 you guys are showing

in normal mixed driving I pull anywhere from 19-22mpg depending on how much I play with it. On a highway trip I pull 24-25...this is with all the mods in my sig on an A4 with 3500 stall and 3:42's. With an M6 I have no doubt I could pull 27+ on a highway trip.

BTW Mixed driving in Charlotte consists of regularly going from 80mph to 20mph in about 3 seconds, then back up Anyone from Charlotte knows what i'm talking about...

I'm mostly stock for now (M6), but I average about 18-20 with mostly city driving. I have posted a 29 mpg tank a couple times, but that was mostly highway/interstate driving. Those that are screaming BS have obviously never tried setting the cruise control on long trips before dumping thousands of dollars in go-fast parts into your car. Is ~30 mpg a reasonable average? Hell no. Is it possible to get on highway trips? Yes, it is.

I am planning on spreadsheeting all my fill-ups this year, tracking my mileage, gallons purchased, and price - all for the entire year, in an attempt to see how much my car is costing me in gas. If there is enough interest, I can post up the spreadsheet sometime this summer (after acquiring some data, and log some highway travel).

When I got my 30 mpg I was doing 60-65 in 6th gear the whole way. I think I had to slow down a little once (maybe to 50 or so) because of slow traffic, but it was only for like 30 seconds, then I got back up to speed.

Why is this so hard to believe??

29.2 MPG on a trip from IN to NJ with the AC on and two passengers + luggage. I can easily believe cars getting 30 or even better without using AC and with no passengers. LS1 + M6 makes a great daily driver.

I keep track of my mileage at every fill up and got some actual numbers for ya.

Best overall tank I've ever had 327 miles / 14.691 gallons at fill up = 22.25 mpg

Worst overall tank I've ever had 285 miles / 14.912 gallons at fill up = 19.11 mpg

Both of these tanks were a mix of city and highway with some romping and stomping mixed in between. -100% stock 02 Z28 M6

LOL at all the in this thread. It's not like anyone is claiming 500rwhp with a cam and bolt-ons. Instead, all the complaining is whether or not anyone can achieve results that are only 10% better than the manufacturers rating for fuel economy.

Original EPA Rating for 5.7L M6 - 19/28

Capable? Yes - as reported by many who have responded (27% over 27mpg, out of 170 responses at this writing)

Knocking down 30+ every time? No, not a single person has claimed that

Sorry, I've got better things to do than burn a $50 bill and four hours trying to prove you wrong. I'm pretty confident in my ability to work over a calculator to figure compression ratios and valve events, so MPG is a cake walk. Since you are questioning how well we can handle the math, now might be a good time for you to brush up on your spelling.

It's mileage

I usualy get between 18 and 24mpg stop and go city depending on if I drive with a brain or like I stole it

On the highway I get 26-30.5 depending on the speed
Belive it or not but I get better mileage at 80 than I do at 65

Vettes are much more likely to see 30mpg on trips due to less weight and better aerodynamics. They also tend to have more **** retentive drivers!

No one has factored in wind either. A strong head or tailwind can easily subtract or add 5 MPG in our f-bodies.
