Default WTF is going on with my oil pressure?!

so ive noticed lately that when i hammer it in first gear my oil pressure drops! at about 4K its just shy of 60 psi?? i think its 60, idk the first tick mark to the right of straight up on the stock gauge. by the time 6K comes around its back to makin 40psi. then once i hit second its pegged at 60 psi(?) until i let off.. never had it drop in any gear but fist and i just noticed this happening this weekend, the 4.11's make it kinda hard to pay attention to the little needles thru 1st when the car infront of you is comin a little to quickly..

any advice?
thanks

Damn thats weird Jordan. I would start with the oil pressure sending unit since its the cheapest. Maybe its acting up and needs to be changed. They are known for going out.

Yea I would roll the dice on that before tearing in for a pump. If it still does it, just park that bad boy and order a new pump.

That's some high stakes poker there...lol

I'm sure you guys know a lot more about it than I, and if the sending unit works...go for it man. Save some bucks.

Just be careful, untold damage to your rotating assembly, etc, etc can happen.

Im not saying go drag race the ******* thing. Sounds to me like he will know as soon as the sender is installed if it was the problem. I guess I needed to draw a picture that said "shut down if you lose significant oil psi".

Okay, check the sending unit. I had a motor with so called "oiling issue" it was a bad sendign unit. I pulled that motor because I had other issues other then that oil issue but the bearing look fine when we pull the caps off.

Now make sure when you installed the oil pump you don't pinch that o-ring while installing the oil pump and do check your oil filter. The oil filter will tell you most of the story of your internals.

I don't trust that oil change light, im afraid that when it gets to the mileage to change the oil that the light wont go on. I just keep track of my miles, then change the oil at the appropriate time. Good luck with the issue, hope you find the problem.

Nothing wrong with a 5K oil change depending on the conditions under which the car is driven and it's synthetic oil...

Default erratic gauge

well Id suggest the sending unit first - they are a common failure in GM's. How full is the oil - the color? if its black - thats due to carbon- needs to be changed. i run synth in mine - and change it at 3k- even then its low -about 2 quarts , so change your oil! if your bearings were going away you'ld be lower on pressure all over the rpm range. I doubt its the pump or bearings but anything is possible
