Default Choosing cam & heads for a 408 DD

Alright you good ol' Tech members. You guys are always awesome so now I'm moving on to my next decision and am having trouble. I'm thinking about having a 408 shortblock built by a sponsor. I have no idea what CR I'm shooting for, as I was going to go low when I wanted it built for turbo but since then have changed my mind. My goals are in the 440-525 RWHP range. It will be driven everyday, about 200 miles/week. 6 speed. this car will never see nitrous. The 10 bolt will be cautious for now, til I eventually can upgrade to a 9" or 12 bolt... will probably choose 3.73's or 4.10's. With the new rear end I hope to run low 11's and MAYBE MAYBE be lucky to see high 10's.

Intake... I'll probably be using a Fast 90/90 intake since they've showed great numbers with other members on tech.

Heads... I'd love to go with AFR heads, Trickflow, or some Patrick G recommended stuff. However I don't really want to spend $2000 or more on a set of heads. I could buy a new 12 bolt for that. Ported LS6 heads might do?

Cam... I've heard great numbers on a 236/236, .580/.580. Many others have recommended a 24x/24x cam. What do you recommend? Know of anyone putting up big power on a 408 with a DD car?

Headers... I've seen lots of horsepower differences with different long tube headers on these 408's. What do you recommend? Keep in mind I don't want a $900 set of headers.

Hey candlelit, Darrenls1 is selling a set of afr heads that are still in the box. Look him up, he decided to go in a different direction. Good luck.

HEADS: 6.0 (317 casting) ported with at least 2.055/1.6 valves milled with .040 gasket

Compression depends on piston chosen, I like Wiseco

CAM: for good DD NA, 242/246 .621/.614 115+3 LSA (custom)

VEs @ .050: 115 LSA/112 ICL

9>IVO
53>IVC
61>EVO
5>EVC
118>ECL
14* Overlap

HEADERS: 1 7/8

That should get you in a nice spot.

i like that combo. the cam should idle very well and still put up strong numbers.i really like my 1 3/4 headers on my 408 though. strong low/mid and give up very little on the top.
