Question Oil Pump Install: How Difficult?

Hey guys I'm having oil pressure problems.
Just to rattle down the info:
When the car warms up, the oil pressure is usually around 40 (give or take). Once I come to a complete stop, the oil pressure usually drops to right over the red. I have had it go to zero twice on me. I'm assuming it's the oil pump. Before I install it, however, I'll go ahead and change the filter to K&N (I think I put a Fram in it last time. Learn from my mistakes ) and run Mobil 1 through it. If that doesn't fix the problem, I'll partake in the great activity known as oil pump replacement.

Question is: How difficult is it to replace?

SORRY FOR THE LONG THREAD!
Thanks in advance,
Ilya.

PS: Any tips or suggestions would be helpful.

its not so difficult. ls1howto.com has a tutorial...The hardest part is putting the pickup tube in and bolting it back.

Im sorry but it really sounds like you might have more problems than the pump. Usually when you have pressure problems after it warms up, it will be a clearance problem.
How many miles are on the motor?

Well relatively speaking, I have pressure problems throughout the entire temperature range... Even when cold, my pressure doesn't go over 40 anyways, unless I REALLY get on it. Miles? Heh... 207,XXX Don't worry, I've got another motor for it. I just wanna save this one for the time being. It is my DD.

*Edit*: Even though I'm having these bullshit problems, I'm still in the "safe" range of 10 psi/1000 rpm.

Loosen the oil pan bolts and let the pan hang a little. Don't remove them, just back them out. The little room this gives you helps ALOT. LS1howto.com works good for a guide.

They're not hard to change unless you swap the OEM for a double row,but I wouldn't be so quick to blame the pump. You might get your feelings hurt if you go to all that trouble only to find you have the same pressure reading as before. I agree that you might suspect bearing clearances considering you have over 200K on the clock.

Not hard at all. The biggest bitch is doing the pickup tube bolt. It can be a pain in the dick. I dropped mine once into the pan. Pen magnents are your friend.

Well the previous owner mentioned something about it being due up for a pump. I was just questioning his automotive knowledge when I drove the car, since seeing 40 psi warm seems normal to me. But then it started this **** and I'm assuming he was right. I guess we'll see!

Im sure Rushin isnt talking about a spun bearing. Hes probably talking about clearances. If the clearances are too big it will drop the oil pressure dramatically.
Change the oil with some thicker weight oil it will have more pressure. Its not a fix, but it will get you by.

Melling 10296 pump will help as well.
