Default Got a cam question.

Im wanting to run a pretty large cam in my car. It has a neerly new LS6 and I really would rather not have to fly cut the pistons. I have a set of Patriot Performance stage 2 LS6 "style" heads w/ 2.02/1.57 valves, 64cc chambers. Im looking at running the Trex cam or MS4 with these heads and from what Ive read its a really good idea to fly cut with any of these cams. The LS6 has 10.5:1 compression and I could stand to loose alittle bit of compression to keep from having to fly cut. If I ran a thicker head gasket could I keep away from having to fly cut my pistons? Thanks in advance for your help.

You'll have to flycut with both these cams, but then you can mill the heads and make up the loss in reliefs.

My question was can I run a thicker head gasket and give up some compression to keep from fly cutting? I know you can run these cams with stock valves without fly cutting but your playing with fire. And sense Im running 2.02s I would be retarded to try to run without fly cutting or trying something to gain some extra room.

why not knock down the cam a little bit? typically with a crossover style intake you will lose very little by using a smaller cam (230s duration) vs those 2. it's all about setup and the TUNE. get a good tuner and custom cam for that application, it will run well. it's not like you're going to gain 45 whp by using the a t-rex or ms4 over a custom ground cam.

I was actually thinking the same thing. Im looking up info on the 233/239 TSP cam right now. It looks like it makes pretty good power. And TSP said that I wouldnt have any valve clearance problems with it and the 2.02 valves. A custom ground cam would be nice. But Im a cheap bastard right now and I change my mind like the wind so Im sure this thing wont stay in its current configuration very long.

whatever you do, make sure that mfer runs. please. most every ls1 around here is painfully slow for its mods. run a 200 direct port, that will make up for any missing hp, you have the internals.

Ive got alittle something else up my sleeve too It "should" run good. Im not going to say it will run cause I dont wanna jinx myself. Im praying it will be done by may 3rd. Its all internally stock. If I had rods, pistons and a studded caps Id be running the Cartek 4X with a 200 shot. But this motor is almost brand new (7,000 miles) so I dont really wanna tear it apart. Ive got an LS1 block in the garage than Im gonna go wild with. Maybe 382ci and the Cartek 4X heads and cam with a FAST 92mm setup and a huge shot. But that will be for next year. For now this is gonna be a kinda slapped together setup and pray for 10s.....

Have you dyned this cam? Did you check your piston to valve clearance when you installed it? Thanks for posting up another option.

Id like to hear Randy's car some time.Ive got a good bit of research do to befor I get a cam. Id hate to just slap something in there and be unhappy with it.

s346k sorry about earlier. I was running behind. I had trouble getting the motor up with the engine hoist because the K-member was still attached to it. Maybe we will run into each other again some time.
