Default Ls Engine Non Computer?

Is there any way to make a LS series engine work without all the computer stuff? Ive seen a distributor adapter to allow the engine to work with a Ford type distributor. Can the engine be made to operate without all the computer stuff? Thanks, Scott!

Yeah you can get a carb and that distributor adapter. but honestly I would just go with the carb and MSD has a control box that controls the timing. They have different types that you can either tune on a laptop, or just adjust the advance/retard and the curve with a couple simple ***** on the box. very easy and keeps that ugly distributor adapter away. I believe it comes with the harness and everything, the only sensors needed I believe is the cam position, crank position, TPS, and MAP? Not positive about sensors but it's really the best way to go.

You might want to switch over to a standalone FI system like haltech, microtech megasquirt or something like that, lap top tune-able and a whole lot less stuff than using a factory set-up.

CAN I do this with a factory LS engine? No way to power the stock FI without the computer? Thanks!

Hi Scott,
There is a massfloefi complete FI with everything.

But I do not see why you are scared of running a base harness (which you have to do anyways), try Painless (sponsor), they remove a lot of the junk away and you are left with detailed simple install, heck if I can do it, any one can.

Otherwise there is the carb setup with MSD LS1/LS6 box

Concerned is a better description than scared. I just dont get computers. I'm old school, If I can see the problem I can fix it. I'm not concerned about the harness, do'nt I need a cpu? Do I have a diagnostic port to download upgrades , etc? That what SCARES me! Thaks, Scott!

Yes, but if you want FI, you just gonna have to get used to it. You need a PCM, preferably 00>02, but for tuning you can just take it to a tuner and he takes care of that.

Or running MSD box, it is the same thing, upgrades are via CPU. It does come with preset pill curves, works best with their 232/234 cam (Comp Cam)

As I also mentionned there is a unit called Mass Flo EFI, kinda expensive but it pretty much tunes itself. They do have them for LS1/LS6 motors, still have to install a harness though.
