Default Choosing A Cam?

Hey guys, well I'm finally doing what I've read so many people post. Give me your opinions on a good cam. The heads I've chosen for my build will be the AFR 205's... as far as the CC's I want to get whatever will get me the exact same compression ratio as stock so whatever that is (if someone wants to point that out it would be great)

As far as the cam, I'd like something with plenty of torque and under the curve power. Although, this won't be a DD I do NOT want to sacrafice ANY drivability I want it to be as fun of a drive as it is stock but with more power. So as much power as possible with sacraficing drivability and durability I do not want to change springs every 10k either. I was going with the Lingenfelter GT2-3 as a base line for now. But I'm open to all opinions, just trying to figure the best cam thanks guys.

The cam your wanting is pretty much made for boost setups if I remember correctly. The 224/228 is a very streetable cam and won't sacrifice gas mileage much. Actually, that cam is about perfect for a good DD if you needed it. Anything much bigger than that would definatley start to sacrifice streetability.

I love my cam. 230/232 114lsa. I DO DD my ws6, and it never bucks or surges. It is loud, but i have TD w/o cats so that probably doesn't help. Here is the Dyno graph.

You can see that it makes tons of low end torque. The numbers are a little low, but I need a better tune. Tony seems to think it has 15-20 peak rwhp in it (you can see the power drop off at 6200 RPMs, should continue to increase until 6600), but regardless it feels real fast and is alot of fun. As you can see it makes torque all the way through the spectrum.

On the heads, why is it that you don't want to up the compression. I went with 62 cc combustion chamber, and have 11.4:1 compression. NO PROBLEMS on 93octane. Anyhow, great choice of cylinder head. You won't be dissapointed!

I might go FI later on thats why I'm keeping my ratio low right now and if I do finally go FI I'll bring down lower with my pistons...

anyway, that power curve looks excellent...
whats the lift on that cam?

IMO its a pretty big compromise to keep the compression stock on the pretense that you might go FI later. The cam recommendations you are getting really need at least 11:1 compression to work best, otherwise you will compromise some of your low end drivability.

Look into custom pistons to make the most of it if you decide to go FI later.

I would get a custom cam for your needs. Hope that Pat G. or Pred. post about this. I went with an off the self cam but would love to do another car with a custom cam from one of these gentlemen. There is no substitute for great knowledge.

Well to tell you the truth I was a little earey about going to a high compression ratio... what are some ill effects that can occur I know you will want a higher octane fuel to burn cooler but what about durability?

The problem is, that stock compression is enough to work with the stock camshaft, but you start adding duration and things change. More duration means a later closing intake valve and less air trapped in the cylinder at low engine speeds. The best way to keep things balanced is to add enough compression to make up the difference. The alternative is designing a cam to perform in the desired RPM range with the available compression, but certain combinations just don't work well. Low compression + big cam is one of those.
