Default How to use search feature within

You can search in the whole posting or the subject only.

Entering several keywords while return all postings which contain at least one of the keywords.
Example: engine ferrari red
This will return all postings that contain "engine" or "ferrari" or "red".

You can add a "+" in front of a keyword which means that this keyword needs to be in the posting.
Example: +ferrari engine red

Returns all querys that contain "engine" and "ferrari" aswell as all queries which contain "red" and "ferrari" aswell as all queries which only contain the keyword "ferrari".

You can add a "-" in front of a keyword which means that this word should not be contained in a post.
Example: ferrari -red
Returns all postings that contain "ferrari" but not "red".

You can search for phrases if you quote it.
Example: "Where is my ferrari?"

Thanks to Astaran for writing this up.

PSJ- please leave this post up ...for a long time!!! It will take my feeble brain that long to remember how to "query". I don't think I like that word (query)...
Anyway, this is a big help for some of us. Thank you.

Is there anyway to return threads in a search?
That is one reason I hate using the search feature.

I like this site alot better than the "other one" but I gotta say that (when it's up) their search function works much better. It seems alot more refined, returning more of what I was looking for, less of what I wasn't and it is thread based, which as stated before is alot cleaner.

Thanks for the tip sheet though, maybe that will help.

WTF is up with this search feature? I tried to do a search on the ASA cam, and got 0 responses. Someone needs to work on this search engine.

search is not working correct.

Even searching for "search for all posts by this user" as found in a profile, no posts, when i KNOW i have 50+ posts in the last month.

A search for {quiet muffler} produces a ton of hits, including

Re: Quiet mufflers for 3" true duals.
Re: Need a quiet muffler!
and lots of hits with only one or the other word.

however searches for {+quiet +muffler}, {"quiet muffler"} with various combinations of capitalization fail to find anything. Could you please talk to your webmaster about this. There are a bazillion good CGI search tools out there, but this isn't one of them.

I tend to agree, I dont get to much relevant info when i do a search... having results by thread instead of by post would make it alot easier.

Is there anyway to set the default search to more than 1 week back? I'm sure 95% of the searches are done using all posts.

Search all open forums would be nice also

Atleast we can search for 3 letter words/acrynoms here though. gets kinds hard when everyone uses the abbreviationa and the search feature doesn't support it.
