Default Heads for 220 cam . . .

Hi all,
First time poster, long time lurker.

I am looking to get new heads and from my searching here it seems I need to be looking at the heads with 200cc volume intake runners to match my cam.
Is this right?

So that leaves the AFR 205cc heads and the TSP Terminators. Any others I should be looking at?

I will be keeping my ls6 intake. I might upgrade to a street warrior if they ever come out. I am keeping my baby cam as I don't have a tuner within several hundred miles of me to dial in a wild heads and cam combo. I do have a friend with ls1edit so i can dial in the PE tables easily but that is about it . . .

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Mods are in sig.

Welcome! Sounds like you're on the right track. I'd go with AFR 205 or TFS small runner (215?)....

420rwhp would make me happy.
I was under the impression that I'd need a bigger cam to get to
450rwhp . . .

My main concern is drivability.

Look in my sig. I'm using untouched LS2 heads i got for 250 dollars and a custom cam i pulled out of my *** and it's an AWESOME combo. You don't need big high dollar heads to make big power.

I didn' think LS2 heads would work on a 3.90 bore?
But obviously they do

Cool. I've read nothing but good about them here.
Do they have stock size intake runners?

Get the AFR 205's, mill them to increase the compression & you will have a great combo. Avoid the budget heads, especially with a small cam.

I have budget heads with a small cam and I am very happy withe the results(see my sig.)Car idles and drives like stock(600rpm) and I also get 27/28 mpg on the highway. The trottle response is fantastic. IMHO the trick is to run the highest C.R. you can. This will give you some good low speed torque and great throttle response.I would shoot for a DCR of at least 8.5.

Ok. So I would have them milled to how many ccs?
Could I reuse my stock-length pushrods?

To be honest, right now I am leaning towards the TSP/PRC Terminators (62cc) due to their price and the fact that they come with dual springs.

IIRC, those are 220cc runner heads.
Dunno about the "new version" ones.

You would really have to calculate it out to figure what is best for your cam. PM Tony Mamo and have him reccomend how to set up the AFR's. Yes you will have to change pushrod length with milled heads.

I have seen a lot of heads on the dyno & AFR's never fail to produce ~40rwhp +~30rwtq. budget heads I have seen produce little to nothing in some cases. Seems to be too much of a chance to me for something you pay a grand for. Spend the extra grand and get a proven time after time set of heads.

There is a thread right now in the dyno section about low power H/C cars and if you look, they all have budget heads.

You said you were worried about drivability with a 220 cam? I drove my 220 cam untuned with LS6 heads for a good 4 months or so before a tune. I'd say unless you already have the cam, go with atleast a 224. In my opinion, it's the same car, just a little more lumpy idle.

Also, my setup is decent with that cam. 383/378 with untouched LS6 heads and Texas speed's 220 cam. But hey, if you've got the money and already have the cam. Can't go wrong with a nice set of AFR's. Arguably the best heads on the market.
