What kind of alternatives are there for LS1 lifters anyway? I haven't shopped around for them much, as I haven't had a need to. Then again, I haven't ran across any while browsing performance sites either.

Stock lifters work great.

I have also run Comp R lifters but frankly I don't think they 'pump up hard' like Comp says. I think they work like stock. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I'm doing heads/cam end of the month... while I was ordering the parts I decided to order new lifters... figure if I'm doing all this work anyways, what's another 200 bux or so.

But your stockers should be fine...

Once you have the heads off you will see 2 rectangular lifter guides each held in by a 10 mm bolt. Take out the bolt then slowly remove the guides, making sure the lifters don't come out with them. With the guides out of the way you can just use a stick magnet to start pulling the lifters out. Go easy pulling them out, and make sure you keep them in order.

Good Luck

Default Stock Lifters ok?

Doing a head swap and thought it would be a good time to change out the lifters? Is this needed or recommended?

If it were me and I was doing a head and cam package, I would definately change the lifters because you wont be able to do them later without having to remove the heads! Since youre already doing heads, you might as well do them now while theyre off. If you dont want to spend the extra money, you dont have that many miles on the motor and you arent doing a very big cam, then just use the stock ones. Hope that helps!

The stock lifters are just fine. They are actually very stout. I did all of my RR on stock lifters with no problems.

Just make sure you don't have any debris on them when you put them back in. I had one of my stock lifters collapse because of caked gunk inside.

Good Luck
