Default When replacing valve springs

Do I need to remove the plugs if I'm using the top dead center method?

It will help for when you are turning over the engine...otherwise, you'll be working against the engine's own compression to turn the crank.

Plus, I like to grab a straw and poke around in the spark plug hole to feel for the piston just to make double sure it is at the top. Can't do that with the plugs in.

I would take them out. It is much easier to turn the engine over.

I think that i may be missing something here. How can you hold the valves on their seats if you dont take out the plugs and add compressed air.I change lots of valve springs, and seals at work, and if you know a way to do it without taking the plugs out im in.

Find top dead center on each cylinder and change them that way. I just got done doing the valve springs and it wasn't hard at all, just time consuming.
The Crane dual valve spring tool is the best invention ever!

i take them out cause the easiest way for me to do it is shove a finger in the spark plug hole and turn the motor over by hand, when air stops coming out its at top dead
