Default TSP Stg 2.5 LS6 Heads vs. Stg 2.5R 5.3l Heads for my set-up?

Did a search and did not come up with any good info, I am not really looking for power under the curve here, I already have a 233/239 112 cam and now I need some heads, which ones would suit my needs and get me more power?

TSP Stg 2.5 LS6 Heads
or
TSP Stg 2.5 5.3l Heads

I do not want to flycut and more compression would be nice. Thanks in advance

I would go with the 5.3 stage 2.5 heads. I have seen only good numbers with similar cams like yours!

Would I have to flycut with their new 2.5R heads?

I just finished making the exact same decision. There seems to be a TON of people running the 5.3L heads and most of those people have had very positive results....I ended up going with the 5.3's milled to 60 cc. From the flow data, it looks like the LS6 heads flow a bit better up top and would probably net you a few more HP up top, however I was more comfortable with the 5.3's simply because there was more information available on them.

As for the flycutting question, I'd contact TSP and hopefully they can give you some guidance there.

I have their 5.3's and they're nice! I'm debating taking them off and milling a bit but you can't go wrong either way.

"I am not really looking for power under the curve here"

so all you want is peak power number...then go with the heads that have the best high lift flow numbers and biggest intake runner.

should make a nice dyno queen

I take it the 2.5 ls6 has a bigger runner than the 2.5 "R" 5.3l heads?

I agree, thats not the way to plan for your ride. You always want the best power under the curve, otherwise youl only have fun at redline only.

You will get more power from added compression than a few CFM.Theres probably little to no difference anyway in actual flow numbers of these heads.

I have the stage 2.5 5.3 heads with a custom pat G cam 232/238 6xx 6xx 111LSA+2
No flycut needed..In an A4 I put down 435rwhp 407rwt..My old numbers with a 224cam was 417rwhp 407rwt..I thought I would lose lowend going with this cam but it does not feel much different down low..It screams mid range and up top LOL!!!

Thanks for the help guys, I think I am going to spring for the stg 2.5 5.3l R heads for the added compression over the ls6

There are plenty of guys in the dyno section running the MS3 w/the 2.5 5.3 heads w/no flycutting needed. Even Johnjanz@texasspeed is running that combo and states no flycutting required... Go for the 5.3's. That's my next investment
