2 piece flywheel?

2 piece flywheel?
I bought this clutch and flywheel from a LS6.
The flywheel seems to be 2 pieces, the 2 "plates" move back and forth.
Is this the way it is supposed to be or do I need a dowel pin?
Do I have the right flywheel?
I need help ASAP
thanks

Yes, it is a 2-piece damped flywheel - the inner plate should rotate freely a small amount relative to the main flywheel. The purpose of the 2-piece flywheel is to reduce gear chatter in the transmission.

I bought it off ebay.
He said it was off of a LS6 crate engine.
"This is a brand NEW Clutch Plate, Pressure Disc and Flywheel just removed from and LS6 Crate Engine. Fits 1997-2004 Corvette LS1 LS6 Including Z06."

Thank you MYHAWKROCKS, thats good news.
I thought it would be heavier also, but I'm putting this in a 97 GMC so it might be better.
I have heard a little heavier flywheel will get a heavier vehicle moving off the line faster.
Does anybody else have info on this?
thanks, Kris

i know some cts-v guys that toss them in the trash , and use a regular flywheel , motor revs a little faster and they pick up a few tenths in the 1/4
far as i know only the cts-v used that , and going with the other posters , to help with noise for the poor caddies owners ears , lmao

Its all about weight. The lighter the better for rotating parts.
Now there are some who will say once you get it rolling it's no big deal... I dont subscribe to that. Even though the heavier mass will carry more momentum it still takes more energy to push than a lighter mass.

Yeah, but is a light weight flywheel worth 2 tenths?!? I dont think thats too likely. I cant see it being that big a difference, although of course every little bit helps.

Thats why I said 2 tenths seems like a lot. There is a difference though, how significant I'm not sure, someone else will know. Your right though its in the every little bit helps category.

I have seen similar applications for things like AC clutches on import cars so you can't feel the AC turning off and on. Seems like a bad idea to me. You either have it adjusted for smooth driving or racing...think about the suspension in your car.
