Talking What Duration Cam?

I have a stock motor LS1 and Im about to put some heads on(RgR heads from speedinc.com).They are milled .30 and have 2.02/1.57 valves with 650 lift dual valve springs.I was wondering what is the biggest or best cam to go with for these heads with out haveing to fly cut.I have all the other goodies so its time now for heads and cam.The guy bought them from showed me a flow chart and there strength is high lift.I am going to use the stock rockers too.

what are your goals...the bigger valves and milling are gonna limit you some.....figure out what you want and go custom...

Its hard to say. Theres no way to calculate the valve events accurately enough to predict piston to valve clearance. Talk to the shop that did your heads and see what theyve used in the past.

I bought the heads already milled and around where i live there are not that many shops that i trust.I was wanting a cam in the 2300-7000 range, i was wanting the MS3 but i think that it is cutting it real close on hitting.

Humm, you might be able to pull off an MS3, its just a bit bigger than my 233/239.

What tranny type do you have (if auto what stall converter)? What is your rear end gears? Weight of car w/driver? What intake/TB do you have? What supporting mods do you have for the engine?

when using .030 milled heads ad bigger valves, you have to flycut, with any 230+ cam

Sure you can get a 228 with 600 lift. Just have Pred-Z or Pat-G spec you out a custom using xfi, lsl or lsk lobes.

Honestly your p/v would be terrible with the MS3 camshaft & milled heads. From what I typically see you'll need to stay around a 228R or a 228/232 camshaft based off our rough idea of what kind of clearance you probably have. Here's a link to the custom cam order portion of our site. I think keeping duration near the range we're discussing should be fine, but just give us a call when your ready to order & we can calculate a few things.
