Default Will beehives work with a torquer v3 and heads?

I don't want to break the bank on this so I wondering will the beehive springs from PAC rated to .650 lift work with the V3 rated very close to that? Is it too close that I'll risk breaking them? And I have been looking at the 5.3 stage 2 heads from TSP but is there any better setup that will be cost effective? Mods I have now are LS6 intake, lid, QTP headers to 3 in off road y to corsa.

Thanks

TSP recommends dual springs for that cam, I believe due to the aggressive ramp rate. I'd be worried about valve float too as high as you'll need to spin your motor with that cam.

Actualy that PAC spring is one heck of a deal I'm offering. Lighter direct drop in replacment. Dont need to change seats and seals.

Some more information for people to digest.

PortPro's
The beehive design has a few advantages over a standard style spring. The smaller coils at the top allow for a very light retainer. The steel retainer for a beehive spring is about half the weight of a standard steel retainer. The beehive springs are resistant to harmonics due to the fact that the coils have different outside diameters and the wire is oval and not round.
The smaller coils at the top also allow the valve train to start moving easier and gain lbs per inch of lift at a much greater rate. This allows for greater control of the valve train.
62 gram spring

less valvetrain weight (which should result in slightly less parasitic losses and better hydraulic lifter operation) and improved valve spring harmonic control.

WIth a beehive spring it's like having 3 different springs in one. At the bottom is your damping coils that help control spring surge. THose close out first and then the rate will jump up and be sorta linear with the center coils. As those close out, you get to the top where the rate becomes very progressive. This allows you to have lower seat loads, but still keeps a good amount of load over the nose.

Then there's the weight difference. A PAC-1218 with steel retainer is 20 grams lighter then a patriot/prc with a Ti. retainer.

Less mass generally means you can turn more RPM. And anytime you can take seat load off and keep you valvetrain under control you will make more power. Which is what that progressive rate allows you to do.

Thumbs up

Yeah the small beehives are great for the .600 lift stuff that's not super agressive and work very well and a lot is the fact that they are so much lighter as well. For really agressive and high lift .650+ stuff I use even bigger PAC beehives like the 1220 and 1520 or doubles but the PAC small drop in beehive springs 1218 and 1518 are very high quality and they have a great reputation as well. Their 1518 is the higher stress duty version that is nitrided and it costs more money but I know a ton of these LS1 places sell them and use them on here.

If for no other reason than the added safety, Id run a set of duals. In fact, with the LSK lobe in the Tv3, Id run the platinums good to .660 as this lobe is essentially why the spring was designed.

Ok, called PAC and they said it would definately be pushing it to its limit and I dont like to run things on the ragged edge so the 1518 is out in this case. The beehive is a better spring but in this application it would be pushing it to its max, and I wont recommend that. IF it was dedicated race car and they were going to constantly be checked then ok maybe we could get away with them.

One thing I was told how ever is PAC is coming out with a new double similar to the 1221, will be nitrided and good to .700 lift. Not due till end of summer. I said sign me up for a dozen

Prototype lab and real world testing of this spring went very well. It's a very nice piece. They are just waiting on getting some time to make a production size batch.

Well hell if they need some R&D I'll take a free set Damn I had a bad feeling that the beehives would be pushed to the max with that setup. I really liked how they control the valves when closing them (spring surge/valve bouncing on the seats) and the reduced harmonics issues. I want my cake and to eat it to damn it. Now the big question of what heads I'm digging the 5.3 stage 2 TSP deal but curious about others. I want to keep the price reasonable but want a little more flow then say a Patriot head. Anyone have a dyno of the V3 and 5.3 combo or another set of heads. And thanks a bunch blanco you have been a massive help.

Nice car man. Hows the torque feeling on it and when does the power really start about 2,500 or 3,000 rpm? And how does that LS7 clutch hold up to it?
