Default C5 vs C5ZO6

If you were to buy one of these cars and put a different set of heads and a tr224 cam in it would it really matter which of the two you bought since you will be changing the heads and cam anyways? I only ask because I really like how the C5 has the Targa Top! But of course I like the horse power of the ZO6!

It would not matter as far as the engine goes. The HP advantage the z06 has is from the heads/cam. With a nice set of ported heads and a nice size cam you should have more power than the z06.

Get a FRC C5 and throw the heads and cam on it. Poor mans Z06 that is faster.

Power would be the same, now as far as performance, the z would still have a edge in that department because of weight.

You would have to lighten it up, build the suspension, and gear it (to equal the MN12 transmission) as well. The Z06 will still have the stronger shot peened gears and exclusivity.

Basically get what you want, if it is getting modded then all bets are off anyway. For instance I loved the look of the C5 Z06, I could have gotten a C6, but I prefered the "fat bottom girl". After our Camaro gets its LSX 454, next year will see a probable LS7 440ci heart and build for the C5 Z.

Yeah, the weight and the gearing will be the difference. Motor won't be any different since you were doing heads and cam regardless. Good luck! I've contemplated one or the other myself.

Yeah I think the targa top looks sexy! Plus with the money saved I could afford a set of heads and cam! Or should I just do a Heads and Cam swap on my 2000 T/A? So many choices!!!...lol

That is what I did. Liked the look of the targa / coup over the Z06

and then I moded the heck out of my 03 coupe

polished 243 heads, 224/224 581/581 112 cam
pp TB, my own CAI
TPIS LTs, Random Tech High flow cats & X-pipe then straight pipes

oil cooler and 3 qt accu-sump, transmission cooler

this past winters tune gave us 400 rwhp and 405 rwtq.

If I had to do it over again, I would bought the Z06 not the coupe.

But I do love my car.

C5 Z06 IMO. Total package car ready to rock, and IMO looks better than the coupes.

Go with whichever you find the best deal on. Personally I would get the Z06, but that's just me. The Z is always going to be worth alittle more than the regular model too.

Get the coupe and mod it. Then you can go fast and still be able to carry your hockey gear and sticks in the car along with a passenger!

I like the targa top as well on the C5. An FRC C6 would look like crap IMO.

To me the standard c5's are not nearly on the same level as the z06. Drive both.. the standard c5's are not nearly as tight of a car from the frame difference alone.

A friend of mine has a 2001 Coupe, and to me it didn't really feel much different. Although his car is a little louder with the B&B exhaust. The cool thing about the underpinnings of the C5 is it was designed to be a Convertible from the get-go so the frame stiffness between the models (Vert, Coupe, FRC/Z06) is negligible.

I say get what car appeals to you the most and enjoy!

I would go with the C5 if thats what you want. Even a set of TSP LS6 heads and 224R cam would make more power than the Z06 and you would have the top you want.

I like the FRCs myself and for the money that the Z06s are selling for I have really considered buying a Z06, in fact I almost bought one before my WS6 but didnt want to swing the extra $12k.
