Default Forged 347 Oil Pressure

Just got my forged motor installed in the car....had to pull it to fix oil pan leak....no leaks anymore and put a new blue o-ring on pickup tube and it snapped right in to place and sits flush.....

I have the plugs out, no spark, and no fuel and I cranked it for around 5 seconds twice and pressure only comes up slightly.....do you need to hold it for a long time for pressure to build?

And if someone from epp can let me know if the "bar bell" looking part was installed on the motor when it was there I would appreciate it (have read the it is located on rear of motor and has to do with oil pressure)

You would be referring to the oil plunger. This is necessary for oil pressure. I was told my Billy Briggs over at W2W of a good way to check to see if it is installed. On the rear drivers side of the block, there is a plug that is angled up and into the block. If you remove this plug, you will be able to see the rod part of the plunger if it is installed. Hope this helps!

You won't see much if any oil pressure by just turning it over, I thought the same thing when I was doing mine and saw nothing. If you don't see oil pressure within a couple seconds of starting it up then I would worry and shut it down.

Thats good info about the plunger..

If you see oil, I'd say you are good to go. Dustin is very thorough in building our engines.

Found a picture of my motor before it was put in......is the oil plunger the plastic circle on the lower left side?

It looks like we found out why you lost oil pressure after you got the engine up and running. The main bearings look torched from a lack of oil pressure probably during the initial start up when you had the oil pump o ring problem. Bob

We sold him the engine and he installed the oil pump and pan. He had problems with the oil pump o-ring, and it looks like he hurt the bearings before he got it fixed. Bob

Oil pressure was 60 psi upon initial start up and my tuner Frost can confirm......warm idle oil pressure was never below 45 psi until I did a wot pass

drove car around for 500 miles with no oil pressure problems......always 60+ on cold start up and 45 as idle and would rise with rpms...

when we started to do wot tuning on car oil pressure dropped to 20psi so I shut car off and trailered to EPP

afr was fat at 10.8 with only 15 deg timing and only made 2 wot passes until pressure dropped

The motor was never started without the o-ring. It was turned over with the starter motor without injectors or coils hooked up to prime it. It would not prime (no o-ring). The o ring was installed and the clearance between the pickup and pan was checked. The engine was primed again and then started. The owner was very meticulous with everything, as can be seen when looking at how NICE and clean he has done all of his work.

What else was hurt besides the main bearings?
