I don't know what to say. The shop is convinced the spacers are needed. They said they've done quite a few mellings with double rollers and always used the spacers with it. They also said the pump looks exactly like a melling...is there any difference between slp oil pump and melling. I'm getting frustrated. I could have done the oil pump/timing chain myself in 8 days, so I'm just wondering if its for sure that the spacers aren't needed, because the shop thinks otherwise.

Unless you had both pumps side by side, I would think that it would be difficult to tell if one had more clearance than the other one. Also, if you remove the spacers, it should be pretty obvious whether the chain clears the back of the pump or not.

tell the stupid *** installing it read the istructions that i gave you a link too. it is not the same as a melling one. it is machined different. tell them put it on with out the spacers and then spin the crank by hand.

The SLP pump is different then the standard Melling Pump.
SLP pump casting has BUILT IN the proper flange width to clearance a double row timing chain. No spacers needed. Do not use the spacers. If the shop needs to call. Have them call me direct.

lmao what ******* idiots, they milled it down to make it sit further back because they spaced it further away?
Hopefully SLPPower's post will clear this up, ls1pwrdss posted a link to the instructions that says bigger than **** " DO NOT USE SPACERS " , just read the info and present it to them quit listening to the doofus's installing it. And like I said bring it up that they owe you a new pump and cover for improper install/not reading directions.

I've installed a double roller timing chain with a stock pump and an SLP pump on 2 LS1's both side by side on engine stands one right after the other. NO shims needed on the SLP and WITH shims on the stocker both fit fine and went on without any issue. Shop has made an error no question.

So after much confusion, the car is done. They had to put on an ls2 front cover and mill that. Also, they had to mill the pump and spacers. Their engine builder and apparently the guy at slp said he used the spacers on his car. Let me say though that this shop was very reputable around Houston and works solely on LSX motors. After a week, they finally got it together. Thanks for all your help and suggestions throughout.

Still makes no sense to me what so ever. Even tho' they got it all on there is something not done normally or should I say like most others. If it works good for you to finally get it back.
