Default Porting LS6 Intake

Is it worth it?
Here's the situation. I work at an aerospace machining company and there are tons of machines here. One of the guys here suggested that I should port the LS6 intake. He would do it for me.

How far can i port it if so? And any suggestions? Precautions?

AND I just found out we have a sand blaster! COOL! One of the guys is sand-blasting my new ported Throttle Body as we speak!

Yeah, this is all I was told could be done too. no real porting, just matching up the runners. TPIS can do a 90mm LS6 though. They are a sponsor on here.

http://www.lingenfelter.com/store/100-191.html

??

is it worth it? trade in my LS6 for $500? and pay the difference? i originally payed $275. The FAST 90MM is $800+

So 275 + 350 = $625 which is cheaper

you only need a fast 90 on a car with a huge cam or a h/c car.

so I cant just install the LS6 90MM intake manifold without tuning? i plan on getting a nice cam. some suggested a 224 which i heard is the biggest smog legal cam.

i will end up getting a 90MM throttle body aswell. any suggestions?? and will i have to tune if i only have the ls6 90mm and a 90mm TB?

Question Are you talking about a stock/OEM LS6 intake ?.. are they not only 78mm ? to match the Throttle Body. Or are you boring the LS6 opening to 90mm?

You might be able to get away without a tune. I would just for the safety in it though.

LS6 does indeed flow better. There's been numerous real world tests that proove it too. I just did a quick search and found this test, there's others out there...

My source is a book... "Dyno-Proven GM LS1 Thru LS7 Performance Parts," not to mention the countless "online" sources like the one posted above ^^^ (thanks 95 Z28). ...and the fact that it's been discussed here on LS1Tech on several occasions (search)!

Overall, just because the LS2 has a 90mm snout - doesn't necessarily make it a better intake (e.g. take into account the plenums and runners).
Stock for stock, LS2 vs LS6 - the LS6 wins any day IMO.

Now porting them both and testing them, I've got no idea.
However, from what I hear, you can't really "port" an LS6 intake all that much.
In regards to opening the snout of a LS6 intake to 90mm, I don't think the gains are worth it.
...But if you're gonna pay someone to do the port work or open the snout - why not just splurge for a FAST 92mm?!

Ultimately, 1_bad_TA suggested a LS2 intake over a LS6 intake... and I'd say that would be a waste of money.

Just my $0.02! Hope this helps.
