lq4/lq9 6.0 crankshaft/block identification (need help quick please!)
I need to know if there's a way to visually identify a lq4/lq9 6.0 liter crankshaft or block. I'm about to buy a 6.0 shortblock and the seller doesn't know what year it's from. I need a 01+ for what I'm wanting to do, so I'd like to verify I'm not buying an older block that I can't use. Thanks!!

sorry to bring it back from the graveyard, but where can the casting numbers be located on the cranks>? I found a Lq4 shortblock for sale, but the seller doesnt know the year make or model it came from and i want to make sure its NOT the older iron headed 6.0

It's cast into the bottom of one of the crank throws, I can't remember which one. You'd have to pull the pan to find it. Easiest way to identify it otherwise is look at the rear main seal. If the crank sticks out about 1/2" further than the seal, it's the thicker rear flange. The thinner rear flange will be pretty close to flush with the rear seal.

The cranks are interchangable. The only thing, if you use a 5.3 crank in a 6.0 block, when you balance the assembly, chances are the crank will need weight added to it, since the pistons are heavier than 5.3 pistons. Adding weight will cost more at the machine shop.
