Default ARP Head Studs torque?

Ok, got a brand new set of ARP head studs. The instructions say to torque them down to 80 lb/ft in 3 even sequences. That's all fine and dandy but does that also include the 5 smaller ARP studs on top?! That seems like an aweful amount of torque for those small studs. Per the ls1howto diagram the 5 smaller bolts are only supposed to get 22 lb/ft. Anyone with any input on this?

Thanks!

My ARP's came with a torque sheet for both the "big and "small" bolts. Per ARP the torque specs for the "small" bolts on top is 22 lb/ft ONCE.

Mine didn't come with the "smaller" stud torque spec sheet. I looked everywhere in the box. Thanks for the info!

Good to see you got the updated torque specification, it was revised last January.

Is this new, higher torque only for new studs that were recently purchased?

My friend has a supercharged LS1 that keeps overheating, suspecting blown head gaskets. The studs are a couple years old but we have been torquing them to the 60-70ft lbs that were in the old instructions. Should we torque them to 80ft lbs?

The old instructions were 65lbs with ARP lube and 70 lbs with oil. I too would like to know since I am about to button down my heads and was going to go by the old specs.

ARP ran testing last winter and revised the torque specification to 80 lb-ft with their lube, at least that is what they told me on the phone. They may have found they weren't getting enough preload and that may be why your gaskets are leaking.
