Lightbulb Problems...is it just a matter of tuning?

ok i got my new motor built details in my signature. and i also swapped to a 6 speed in the process. everything works perfect and the car runs great. the only thing is sometimes it dies as soon as i start it and when i come to a stop sign and push in the clutch the car dies unless you feather the pedal. if you just push the clutch in it just dies...in my auto the car died coming to a stop before it was tuned but with a 6 speed i didnt think a tune was such a big deal with my cam. i know it will help alot but didnt think it was necessary right away. i have a tr224 cam the .581/.581 version on a 114. can anybody help me out? i know nothing about the tuning aspect of these cars. also the car is running real rich...but i have no cats so i figure it would smell a little. it has a little black smoke when you really get on it hard. the computer is for a 6 speed and has a stock tune from what i understood. any imput would help. thanks guys.

get it tuned, that should take care of issues like that. If there was a vacuum leak the car would have problems idling all the time I would think.

that's ur air pump. it's under your driver's side headlight. it cuts off after about 30 secs or so. u need to tune it out and remove it. as for the other issues, i would think it's all in the tune.

If it was a vacum leak, more than likely it would be idleing high due to it sucking in extra air... So you can probably rule that out... You say it was an A4 at one time, did you ever have the idle bumped up from the stock setting?? I'm not sure, but don't the A4 have like a 550 or so stock idle setting?? Might just need to have the idle raised to 700 or so.

Just from my own experience after a cam install my car would want to die after starting up, hot or cold, would want to die when I pushed in the clutch at idle, and the exhaust smelled very rich too. I cracked the throttle blade open just a little to let some more air in at idle and that fixed it. Smell is still a little rich but much better. Not sure if you have that adjustment on your TB or not or if it just has a hole in the blade. Mine is designed to have a slight gap at the bottom at 0% throttle instead of having the hole to let air through like the stock TB.

the car does idle at about 1050 when its not acting up but it tries to dies when you push in the clutch or first start it. it has an m6 computer although was once an a4 i swapped pcms also but it has a stock tune on it.

My guages did that one time and all I had to do is change a fuse and it started right up. Also, a tune would do you a whole lot of good.

Get it tuned. Two things, you have forged pistons. They are a lot noisier than the stock pistons and probably setting off all kinds of KR (knock retard) and pulling timing. Even thought the cam isn't huge, your car still will have idling problems on the stock tune.
