A lot of guys have had problems. Read the Comp literature, recommended preload is 0.002-0.004" requiring an adjustable valve train. Morel is a much better lifter, have you looked into them? They will sustain heavy spring loads and are made from much better materials. Crane also has a new lifter out that is a step above. Both of these lifters are used by the offshore racing guys, who beat the snot out of lifters compared to a car.

put the cranes in it, you can still run the stock rockers. Let me know and I will give you the correct part number to use.

There is no such thing as a self adjutsing rocker arm.

Honestly I would steer clear of Comp on about all things. They have really cut cost thus cutting quality in the past 2 years it seems. From their 918's to their Pro Mag rocker arms they are having problems. A few in the offshore powerboats have had their Comp rockers breaking at the needle bearing. Perfect valvetrain geometry was found. Swithcing to Crane Golds cured the problem. I have had 2 bad Comp hyd roller cams. I went with Morels on my marine SBC which is run twice as hard as a car. I originally went with Comp's but was swayed to Morels on good info from builders. Comparing the two side by side was a no brainer.

The Ls7 lifters are not the replacement lifters for the Ls1's. So thats a good thing I guess!

I know two people that use the ls7 lifters one on a 418 vette and the other on a head and big cam ss vert. I mean dam for 150 bucks a lifter that can see 6k+ I wish I had them but they fit with no issues and my boy with the ss pounds that car any chance he gets.

I installed Comp Rs in my GenIII nearly 10 years and 100K miles ago and it has never skipped a beat. Maybe their quality control has taken a dive recently, but I don't have personal knowledge of that. This engine also has a big Comp Cam, Comp 1.85 Pro Mag rockers and Comp Hi Tech pushrods. The whole top end on this LS is Comp(supposedly the "bad stuff" according to the above posts) except for the heads which were CNCed by Richard at WCCH. I expect this motor to run another 100K without a tear down. If you use Rs set them to zero lash and stop. No extra preload. I did have one 918 break years ago. The spring held together even though it was broken. I didn't even know the spring was broken until I pulled the heads apart to ship them to Richard at WCCH to have him do the mill work.

I had a Comp R's retaining ring come out and apart. Found it on my drainplug and I have the Caddy lifters in there now. Time will tell. . . . . .

to much preload on that particular sytle lifter, thats why the retaining ring came out/apart. But, I still wouldn't use them at all.
