Default 450hp H/C combo

please help me build a head and cam combo to make me around 450rwhp. Im starting this thread because i am going to have alot of questions.

Im looking to spend from 1900-2300ish dollars and I dont want an extreme high-end cam that will spin a bearing

Also, what other items do i need to drive the car with a h/c combo?

- clutch down the road
- can the stock fuel system handle this hp range? any modifications needed?
- im sticking with the stock 10-bolt until it breaks - so that answers that question
- ported ls6 oil pump
- I already have an ls6 intake mani and bigger throttle body

any help is greatly appreciated

450 rwhp is a lot to ask of small cams and cheap heads. Just because you see tommy with his cam only ls6 making 450 rwhp with a hotcam doesnt mean you will. 450rhwp is a number.... how fast do you want to run on the track?

any help is greatly appreciated
Yeah fuel system will be ok.
some stock ls6s heads that are used
cam+ parts n tune.

should put you in the 2000 dollar range if you do all the labor...

450RWHP.. you will need more than $2,000. You'll need bigger injectors, fuel pump, oil pump, timing chain, pushrods, heads, cam, lid, gaskets, bolts, fluids, new lifters if you have a lot of miles on your car, underdrive pulley...full exhuast... I've seen 450 done with a ported TB and a LS6 intake but most use a ported 90/90 or 92/92. Also look at getting a 85MM MAF and Air Lid. Persoanlly I don't see you making that much power with $2,000 at all... do a sarch as there are several threads in regards to 450RWHP.

My goal is 450RWHP as well and my heads alone (AFR 205's) will probably cost me around $2,400... I'm going with a 228/230 cam which is small but I going with good heads to make up for it. I'm getting my heads milled to increase compression, upgrades springs and a lil extra Mamo porting as well.

Look at mid range power not top end also. Most guys on here will say bigger is better but thats not the case. Take a gander at Venegence Racing's VRX4 cam... if you have a LSX specific shop close to you ask them what combo would be the best for your application. I'd send you my wish list for 450RWHP but I'm at work.

I hope this helps some... ask some more questions if need be. I'll be at work for another 2 1/2 hours...

Where I am purchasing my heads from, with the heads on my order sheet, I should be over 500rwhp easy through a 10 bolt on a forged 347. They are ported 243's, and the head/cam matching combo costs rougly $4200.

your definitely gonna need all the boltons and some good heads and a pretty big cam to make that much to the wheels.

I'll sell you my H/C setup... You'll need all boltons to get to this level...

Only has 2000 miles on it.

what is the deep dark secret? who is porting your heads??

for 4200 you can get tfs 215 -2300 yella terra rockers -400, any vengeance cam 400, and fast intake ported 1k

sounds like pt barnum was right when you walked through the door of their shop...

Simple reality is you will need more $$$$$ for a 450hp H/C combo than just $2300! Even if you plan on doing the labor yourself, you'd need more than $3k on just parts for that kinda HP.

With that budget you might want to consider doing a cam only setup. You won't get 450 rwhp though.

Yeah I could spend 4200 on what you mentioed but I'd be going slower. I can't really talk much about where they are coming from on this site, touchy subject.

But, Joe Mendelis designed the master port, and you can buy them through Bauer Racing Engines. I'll PM you to a link with some pics.

And to counter your PT barnum comment:

"For you who believe all you read, I caution you - you are daily being brainwashed for profit by extremely effective psychology with very little reguard to factual accuracy. In short, you're at the mercy of the world's greatest bullshit artists with the morals of a stray tomcat."
- Smokey Yunick

Thanks for letting me borrow the quote Bret

I just got mine in, just waiting for a tune. Taking a tune into account also is $450 on average. If your doing heads and cam and looking for that power. Clutch is going to be needed no doubt. Mine is somewhat on budget, and still cost me more than what you said. If you half *** it, your leaving a very weak link somewhere. Oil pump($150), lifters($130), pushrods($100), timing chain($40), injectors($350+), heads($1200+), cam($360), basic install kit ($150). Those are about as cheap your going to get those parts without shipping included. Talking about $2700-2800 all said and done with fluids and shipping not including the tune. The rockers would also be a good idea but can be done later as long as they are in good running order. These are for the basic parts like LS2 chain only, TSP oil pump, LS7 lifters, so on and so forth. Hell, it is so worth it though. Got on my car for the first time yesterday and can't believe what a difference. If you don't want a massive cam, get something like a 231/237, alot of people have made 450 with it. although it is still a decently big cam.

I spent 1700 bucks on my H/C setup and with a FAST 90 made 475. Looks like you are getting poked in the ***, especially for some LS6 heads. almost 3 grand extra for 25hp IF you even make the numbers you are claiming. You can buy a stroker motor for those kind of prices!

Here's a link to a car I built: Completely stock (17K miles). H/C/I/E and almost everything powder coated. It costed about 5K but with an exhaust and motor mounts, etc. Made 465RWHP after injectors and a tune. Here's a link to the build:

I just spent 7000 dollars on stage3 head and cam at livernois. 92mm fast intake and t/b
42lbs injectors and fuel pump. I had it tuned and I have 440hp to the rear, so 2300 dollars GOOD LUCK.

I have a couple questions myself.

-At around what rwhp do the injectors and the fuel pump need to be upgraded?

-Is an upgraded oil pump neccesary?

I am lookin for the same power levels as well.
