I need to know if my timing chain is ok
I know everybody will say get an ls2 timing chain but is it alright to use my stock ls1 timing chain? Chain has about 40,000 miles on it.
Cam specs are 232/242 .598 .610
Will it hold up ok if there is no play when i check it out? Reason i am asking is because i may not be able to get my hands on a chain in time and im going to need my car. Car wont be spun higher than 6600.

Had stock timing chain with an LS6 Hotcam - still made me nervous. Went back to stock cam and I'm ordering an LS2 since it needs to be replaced anyways (73k miles - don't wanna bend any valves).

This upgrade stuff is like SEX! Its exciting, its all you can think about before it happens, and most people don't plan for it!
Get everything you think your going to need. Here is my example. I bought about everything I thought I would need for a H/C swap. When I got to the intake manifold, I was under the impression that I could reuse the rubber seals in the manifold. I inspected them and found they did not have the elasticity they should have. I bought new ones for insurance and found the were much thicker, as the old ones had taken a set.

Hell if its cam only just wait til you do your heads and then replace the chain at that point. doesnt make sense to do all that work just for the chain if you plan on doing heads in the future.
