This last Friday Louis Gigliotti, myself, and a few other guys installed LGs new G5X1 cam in my 1999 SS. Along with the cam, we also used some cromoly pushrods, and the REV double valve springs. BTW, that new More Performance valve spring tool worked great! Total time for the install (including dinner <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> ) was 7.5 hours. Turned the key and the car immediatley started and found its 800rpm idle. BTW, my car is currently running a 100% stock computer and still has the LS1 intake.

First impressions of the car was that it idled hard, but wasn't chaotic. It stayed at a constant 800rpm idle (not even a hint of idle hunting), even with the A/C on! For me, the idle is perfect, because you know there's a good size cam in there, but its not annoying. The car is very driveable on the street. Louis and I were both expecting a few driveability problems without a tune, but it drives perfect! The car isn't very happy under 1400rpm in first gear, however, it begins to buck and surge some. Thats expected with a decent size cam like this.

Power wise, obviously its bottle necked right now, because of the stock rev limiter and LS1 intake. The power is very smooth, right from 1500 to the stock rev-limter. It doesn't just "come-on" at any certain RPM, its just there. I didn't notice any loss of low-end torque (except for under 1500 obviously).

We took a few sound/video clips. Those should be up soon.

The car is getting an LS6 intake in a few days, and is getting a full dyno tune at LS1 Speed on Tuesday the 18th of this month, so i'll be sure to post up what she puts down.

So wait a second, this is the new cam from the recentnly released G5 H/C package? Or is this the original G5 cam? Either way, does this mean that just the cam is available?

Ramair - I'm not exactley sure what you mean. LGs newest and greatest cam is the G5X2. I have the G5X1 (which is also new),and is not to be confused with the smaller G5. Unfortunatley, the specs on the G5X1 are secret too.
