Default TR224/112 Guys inside Please!

I'm about to order a TR224 camshaft and I'm really leaning towards the 112 lsa due to the better midrange and peaking a little lower. How are the every day manners of this cam. Idling in traffic with AC blowing, cold and hot starts, backing down from high rpm stalling, or any other input is greatly appreciated. This will be in a daily driven 6spd car with full bolt ons.

I will have a custom file from Diablo sport in means of tuning, but how will it act til' then? Thanks fellas!

It was not to bad actually. Idling was bad every once in a while. Hot starts were hell. but just give it a lil bit of gas and it wont give you any problems. daily driving was nice. As for with the AC on??? never turned mine on. In fact im pulling it off. I like mine, and feel li made a good decision with it. Tuning makes a great difference, and made it that much more fun to have in the car

You should be ok with it, you will need to expand missfire dtc parameters, to keep missfire codes from popping on ses light. you will need to tweak idle speed with Tb hole or idle set screw adjustment. All of my cammed buddys are running it here, i would suggest turning ac off before shutting off car and before starting it, but besides that it will idle fine with a/c on in traffic.i dont run that cam but my lobe seperation and seat duration are the same, so my driveability is very close. You should plan shifting it around 6600 rpm and headers are a must imho.

Thanks for the replies. In Florida I don't have much choice in AC use! I do always turn it off though when I shut the car off. The car has Hooker LT's and every other bolt on so the car will be able to breathe. Thanks again fellas and keep them coming!

My cam made really good power. My car ended up throwing a few codes and running extremely rich, even after tune. The lump was hard, just like I wanted it to be. Idle quality was fine, just loud. I had an SLP LM exhaust with SLP LT's, !cats, it was insane.

The car would kill sometimes when I would start it, just took a little bit of gas to keep it going, once it was going it was fine.

I would probably to a 114 LSA cam if I were to do it over again.

Oh yea, I blew my engine a month later!

After tuning, the C1 runs A/C with no problem. Before the tune, it would die when idling with A/C on. Me needs the A/C too.

I have the 224 114lsa cam and after tuning it runs great. No problems around town or with a/c blowing full blast. Great cam you won't be disappointed.

Scoobs,
I think I'll have on hand experience with that one! Looking forward to hearing it in the Weeks Garage!

I like the 114 due to the idle quality, but it almost idles too good. I have a B&B Triflow on the car and it is pretty mild and you would have to listen close to hear a 114. I want everybody to know that it is a pissed off LS1! Kinda want my cake and eat it too. As long as the issues can be tuned out I'm ready to go.

I just installed this cam in my SS last week and cold starts are kind of difficult. You have to give it some gas to keep her from dying out. Also, you have to wait until your engine is to normal operating temps until you turn your A/C on, or it will probably stall. Other than that, I love this freaking cam.

Ditto! The 114 will give you fewer problems, mine's great! As for the lope, you can get as little or as much as you want depending on how you do the PCM tuning. With no tuning, it will lope pretty good!

I have had this cam for about 3 months now Tuning was and still is a biatch, being that my car is auto. The car is a daily driver. The car runs good with the A/C on once the car is warmed up! Like said above start the car with it off and you will be fine. If I were to do it all over again I would have went with the COMP 224/224 581/581 112lsa, or the TR230

Theres no reason why M6 cars should have starting/stalling problems with this cam. I have the cam in my sig and ran stock tuning for a few weeks w/ very little stalling. Changed the VE tables and the car runs perfectly..but I did drill the TB blade some. With the proper tuning, the car should start just like stock.

M6 here, no problems at all. Had the TB drilled, rev limiter raised, and misfire code shutoff. Never stalled once, idle is 900. So stock tuning outside of the rev limiter.

i have the 224/224 114 cam in my A4.

First fireup: idled great for a minute
2mintes later: had to throttle car to keep her running
driving home 30mins: every light I came to it would stall out

raised idle to 850 and drilled TB hole: Still the car would surge on cold and warm starts badly

raised idle to 900: cold starts awesome, some surge on warm starts off and on

1 year later: 1 outta 10 warm starts surge, easily fixed with slight throttle. Cold starts are perfect!

every stop light I comed to it feels like the rear mirror is gonna fall off. 114 idles alot harder than some think. I cant tell the difference in the 112 and my 114 sound wise when i open the cutout.

SES lights: PO300 will need to be turned off or the misfire tables will have to be edited to 32000.

Cams are nice, but you gotta make sure you can handle the surge you get sometimes on warm starts/cold ones also, the herky jerky crap around town in the 25-50mph range when letting off the gas, and the shakey idle at every light you come to. Everyones definition of no issues or perfectly streetable is different from others. Sometimes I get sick of my 224 114 cam, but other times I love it. As for the 112 maybe making more power.. i dunno, my 114 does just fine at the track

good luck and happy cammin

It seems that every car reacts differently to the cams. Some have issues while some run great. Looks like I will just roll the dice and see how the SS responds!

A lot has to do with whether the car is an M6 or A4. With the M6 you will do great with a TR224 whether it's the 112 or the 114 even without tuning. With the A4 better get the 114 and plan on a lot of tuning.

Cal,
Did your car have any stalling or hard idle issues with the 114 before tuning?
