I would check this first. It sounds stupid but I pulled all my passenger side rockers and pushrods to later find a loose plug.

Check your A>I>R lines if you still have them if not then check your block off plates. Macs tend to come loose.

The lines are removed, I'll check the block off plates, and the plugs and wires are a week old, but i'll double check those too

Yep, that will make a big ol' tick if those come loose. I had that happen once.

well I pulled the valve covers and the rockers look fine, one of the push rods may be bent, so tomarrow I'm pulling off the rockers and push rods to get a closer look

Yeah, Ive been where you are. My buddies car had a ticking noise and was setting a P0300 misfire code from # 7 cylinder. We first checked the pushrods and they were not bent, so then I did a compression check on #1 and #7 for a comparison, and #7 was about 65 lbs lower than #1, so that told me we either had a bent valve or hole in the piston. So we pulled the head off and sure enough we had a chunk of the piston gone about the size of quarter.

hopefully that's not the issue, but i was throwing a misfire code too, it just didn't tell me which cylinder

Yeah I work at a chevy dealership, so I used a GM Tech 2. It tells you everything you will need to know.

Cool

The LS7 (GM) lifters are recommended by many; a little more pricey are the Caddy (GM) lifters which can rev a lot higher.

This is weird. The sound went away. I retuned my idle and took my timing down more on my map and smoothed them more. I also lowered the idle speed to 825 cause before it was set at like 950. It idles good and runs like god, you dont think it was the timing do you? Well either way it is gone for freee! I know this is not my thread but thanks for the help.

Well that is weird. I don't the timing would have anything to do with it ticking.

well i found a slightly bent push rod, so i bought chromoly ones, and got some rockers that only had 33k miles on em, put it all back together, and no difference, still ticks, so its either a lifter, or bottom end, I'm leaning more towards lifters as I've read, I was just hoping to not have to do that

did you check your plugs. I did the same thing. Changed the plugs out one day about a week later it started ticking. got louder and louder as time went on. ended up being a loose plug.
