LQ9 Questions... Cams heads and stuff
Quick questions... My current mods are in my sig, and I am gonna be purchasing a LQ9 short block but my questions are.
1.) What Cam would be better? Stock LQ9 or my GM Hot Cam and LS6 Springs?
2.) Would LS6 heads fit/work fine just bolted on like the way they are?
3.) What mods would need to be done or would it just drop into my car?
The reason I ask is because my motor is blown and well 6.0 wouldn't be a bad route. Please help ASAP before someone buys the motor... Thanks
PS. Probablly won't be spraying for a long while

yeah it will all work but the 317 heads are basically ls6 heads with 72cc chambers so u can use stock ls1 or something else to up the comp ratio with the stock cam and make good numbers i got right under 380 rwhp with stock lq9, stock ls1 heads, stock ls1 tb, stock ls6 intake, and a tune looking to break 400 once i get a full exhaust

Sounds good and you have good numbers... Well I was reading that if I were to add LS6 heads that I would have to swap the Pistons... how true is that? And what's the difference from 72cc and the LS6? And how would it be posible for my 98 Heads to be better? I am kinda nobie at this

your ls1 heads arent better then 317 lq9 but the smaller cc of the ls1 one head up will comp ratio form 10:1, how much is what im trying to find out. but if you have the money ls6 heads will be better. as for the 317 heads vs the ls6 main difference is 317 72cc/ ls6 64 cc

the 317 heads are ls6 heads with bigger chamber, mill them .020 if u do remove them,
the hot cam will be better than the stock cam
no ls1 fbody heads are better than 317 heads
are u sure its a lq9? a lq9 and lq4 look identical with the heads on.
lq9 has flat top piston, lq4 has dish

I have the Manual Chevy LS1/LS6 v-8's and it says "There is an issue with compression ratio on the LQ9 swap, as it already has a 10:1 compression ratio with the 72-cc LQ cylinder heads.Bolting on the LS6 heads, with their 64-cc chambers, will require a Piston change to get back to a streetable 10:1 compression." The last thing I would want to have to do is replace pistons or anything on the LQ9 block.

like i said, do not remove the heads, the 317 are ls6 heads.
just install your hot cam, springs and go
the 10:1 compresion is good enuff as is for the hot cam.
if anything, add ls6 rod bolts or arp rod bolts and ported oil pump
