Wanting at least 400hp
I have an 01 z-28. I was thinking of putting maybe some jethot headers and a volant intake smooth bellows new maf sensor maybe a fast 90/90 setup i want the catted y and possibly an slp loudmouth II cb, and of course a tune. I was wondering if that would be enough to get it up that high and if anyone maybe knows where a good place to get a car dyno tuned in the north texas area.
well being a 01, you have an ls6 intake. Do a cam kit from someone like TSP, the MS4 kit works awesome. I made 405 through a 12 bolt with 410's chrome z06's NO UD pulley and a stock throttle body when i had the stock motor.
That cam kit with full bolt ons and a good tune will do 400whp pretty easy.

My car is an a4. I like cams but i still want to retain my driveability and decent gas mileage. I drive this thing on a daily basis and don't get me wrong cams are great but I really didn't want to go that route, but if that is what I would have to do I might make an exception. I was just hoping that I wouldn't have to.

Don't get me wrong, a nice burbly cam is all well and good and i do like the way they sound. I may end up going that route or maybe some spray but thanks for your input.
Like previously stated... a cam is the only way N/A. Go with a tr224 on a 114 lsa. Should be real streetable, and with all the bolt ons.....it could hit close to that number with a good tune. It will also behave well with the juice should you go that route later.
I've got the same goals as you (400rwhp).
I'm getting LTs on my car this week (hopefully), and I'll dyno it afterwards. I think my mods since the 315rwhp pull will bring me closer to the 400 mark, but not all the way there. The mods since the last pull will be: LS6 intake, Cut-out, LTs, Lid
However, I don't think I'll hit 400 with this. A 224/224 112lsa cam should put me just over the mark though.
Have fun learning about cams btw. It's frekkin' black-magic until you understand the basics.

It is a cam from Thuder Racing in Baton Rouge LA about an hour from me. It measures 224 intake and 224 exhaust and .581 on the lift and ground on 114 lobe separation angle or lsa. Thunder Racing is a sponsor on here. The wider (or bigger) the lsa the smoother the cam tends to run such as the z06 vette cam is ground on a 117. My buddy made the tuner up his idle to 950 to hide the lope while its in park. This cam is one of the smaller street cams that can be used with a stock 3.23 or 3.42 gear with a mid size stall and get good performance out of it. Don't get me wrong a bigger stall and more gear and this car will really fly, but it does 11.60's on motor now so that is good enough for him. He still gets 22 mpg with this car.
Here's a good page with info about what the different values on a cam mean, and what's involved with installing one.

I used this cam. If you go back and look at the cam selections for the T-rex, there is a dyno graph. Not much of a DD. But it makes huge power. I love it.
