Default Cam Install Finally!!

My Cam is finally going in this weekend as well as timing chain and oil pump! Me, my friend and his dad are going to install it. Well mostly his dad. Any of you have any words of wisdom or stuff we should look out for?

Be sure to install the oil pump spacers that came with the rollmaster double chain, otherwise you will have zero oil pressure on start up. Also, make the spring compressing tool, it makes the spring swap so easy. Good luck!

Oil Pump O Ring

Oil Pump O Ring

Oil Pump O Ring

Now, I have your attention. Get a new one. Make damned sure it is installed correctly.

Don't do what I did. I had to pull the front end of the motor back down and install a new O ring when my oil press would fluxuate madly!

It still pisses me off just thinking about it.

Use the jmX "How-To"

Good Luck,
Ron

In fact, I think anyone who have ever used the jmX "How-To" for there Head/and or Cam install ought to send him Ten ($10) Bucks just for the work he put into it, and all the help everyone got from all his effort!

It will be the best 10 dollars you ever spent!

Ron,

If your installing a NEW oil pump pull the pump cover off and take out the DRIVING and DRIVEN gears. Now mount the pump msking SURE to get the hole in the triangular shaped spacer lined up properly with the output port of the oil pump. Now that the pump is on the crank snout (The mounting bolts have not as yet been installed) you can put the pump pickup tube into the pump pickup port with the NEW "O" ring installed on the tube. Oh, by the way don't drop the pickup tube mounting bolt into the oil pan. Some people have BIG TROUBLE getting the pickup tube into the pump input port so if you do use this method it will solve that problem. Now you reinstall the gears and cover making SURE to face the "DOT" on the DRIVEN gear "OUT". If you install the new pump this way you'll wonder what all the fuss about not being able to get the pickup tube into the pump is all about.

just FYI...its cheaper to get the pen magnets at a Hardware store(HOME DEPOT) in the tools department than at any auto store...only cst like $4.50 each here in kc...auto parts store wanted almost $7 each...and when you gotta buy 16 of em.... also you can get about 10 at a time from HOME DEPOT....and usually auto stores have 1 or 2...only have to go to 2 stores instead of all over town to 20 different stores...saves gas...saves money....
home depot version is made by "GENERAL"..and comes in a yellow/white/black package.

OK listen closely.

When you re-install the oil pump, make sure you bolt up the oil pick-up tube BEFORE you replace and tighten the oil pump bolts''''

Do this or run the risk of pinching the O-ring which will require you to remove the pump again.
