Default What Oil Weight for a Cammed LS1

Before some of you go nuts, yes I did search and I found mostly useless information. I'm going to do an oil change soon. I have no idea what's in the car right now. The car has 85K miles on it. It has a 224/224 .581/.581 114LSA cam, with manley push rods and patriot double gold springs. The rest of the car is very modified also. I drive this car pretty hard.

I was considering going with Royal Purple. But I have no idea what weight I should use. I've read other threads and all people say are.. "5w30.." or "0w30." they just say what they're running. I wanna know why your running that, and how this oil could benefit my engine. Basically i'd like an answer from someone who has a similar enigne or decent knowledge of what to use for this application, if someone could.

Thanks!

I run 10w50 synthetic because of my climate.

Depends were you live and what season it is to a degree.
You don't want to run really thin sometimes or too thick either.

The factory recommends 5w30 for an engine that they run a lot hotter than most of us do.

I am running the German Castrol 0W-30. Two reasons, the used analysis has been excellent. Second, at 100 degrees C it has a viscosity of 12.1 Cst, near the top of the 30W range whereas Mobil-1 has a viscosity of 10.1 Cst, near the bottom of the 30W range. It also has better shear numbers.

Mobil 1 0W-40 is bullet proof. Have run it in a lot of race engines, and have never seen an issue.
