Anything with a 112 LSA is going to have a healthy lump to it. Going to a 114 would help. You could even go with a larger cam than that on a 114 LSA and there would be alot less lope.

I already have a 114 lsa, how much bigger can the other numbers get and still have a decent idle?

Wow that is a BIG cam!

I guess you have some rather large valve reliefs built into your pistons right?
I've been told by many that a 242/242 .610/.610 114 lsa is TINY for a 427.

What do they consider an appropriate sized cam for a 427 daily driver, pump gas w/ air conditioning? MTI has the S1* 244 244 .612 .612 112 as their biggest cam for 427 + CID. My 427 has a TINY TINY *** cam, the R1* 232 236 .575 .578 114

I have an S1 ready to slap in but would go bigger if it still gave me good streetability, etc.

How can MTI or anybody say that a 244/244 is the biggest they would use for a 427 when my 242/242 is tiny and idles just like a stock LS1, no shiit, just as smooth as a stock LS1.
I'd like to hear a 427 with a 248/252 114 lsa in there.

You have opposing goals here

You want more power and a bigger cam but it will come at a sacrifice of idle. I would leave what you have in there.

It must make pretty good power now with that cam? 470RWHP plus I would think with cats. I wouldnt bother because it wont be worth it power wise without picking up some lope.

Cheers,
Chris

Thats why I'm considering it, I can handle more lope because it's so docile right now, I just don't want it to be crazy lopey so it stands out like a sore thumb.

My ARE 436 has a 242/242 .612/.612 114LSA in it and it has a nice lump, but not TOO much. It definitely does not idle like stock!

I have been pondering the thought of going with a bigger, split duration, 112LSA cam to see if I could get up over 500rwhp and have it even a bit more mean sounding. I am at 491rwhp/495rwtq right now through ARE Stage3 LS1 heads that were ported a few years back.

If I could be sure I would pick up 10-15rwhp from a change to a larger cam I would go for it as the lope does not bother me at all.

After my car warms up for just a minute or two, no lope, no vibration, no movement beyond stock whatsoever.
Does your ARE 436 burn oil like a couple of the others do?

You should be runnin in the 10's?
