it is kinda hard comparing apples to apples..346 or 364 LS1/LS2 vs 302(or 281 for you mod motor guys)..right away the LS1 has a displacement advantage..actually if i remember correctly,the 281 mod motor makes just as much,if not more,power per cubic in than the LS1/2..
but if your comparing stock vs stock or bolt ons,it's not even close..the Mustang get's it's *** beat every time..
i have seen some bad *** little fox body 302's that had the right parts on them that would walk on LS1 Camaro's..and this was N/A,no forced induction or nitrous..but they had nasty cams,4.11 gears,etc. had to rev em to the moon to make power..it's all in the combo of parts..
but mod for mod,the LS1 has too much going for it,because your making so much more power stock,due to displacement and better heads...
now if i put a maggie on my car,wonder what it would put out?hmm
