damn spike has been 6.20s on a stock bottom end 302 on 2 kits. I'm not sure since I'm a little new to this racing but I believe thats in the 9.90's.

Anyway, I've found a junk yard that will sell me a complete LS1 out of a wrecked Camaro for $2000, to include computer, accessories, and auto tranny. Does this look like a good deal or no? How about the tranny...would it be faster if I sold it and found a 6-speed? I'm interested in this swap, but I just don't want to waste my time if I'm not going to go any faster. I've been faster than 7.80's on the spray, but I don't know if the LSturd can handle as much spray as the Ford junk can handle. How much can you spray to a stock LS1turd and get away with it?

What is up with everybody getting so bent out of shape anyway? You call a hot girl ugly, and she'll just blow it off b/c she knows that she's hot...kinda like calling a Ford owner slow. On the other hand, you call an ugly chick ugly, and she'll get all pissed about it...kinda like calling an LSturd a turd...you know what I mean.

Oh, and what are a couple of good, cheap mods that can be done...cam? Intake? Headers?...

I got you covered Randy! You will be at SDR on the 22nd of November I presume??? I want to see you stretch the leg's out on the Turdanator!
Nobody needs to get there panties in a wad, Randy is a great guy and fun to race with! As long as I have known him, he has alway's called LS1's LSturd's!!

If you really are interested... bolt-on can be considered as such:

full exhaust (long tubes)
good intake setup (cold air, or whatever)
under-drive pulley
ls6/ls2/fast lsx intake... i think ls6 is more valid, since it came stock on 2001-2002 motors anyways.
ported throttlebody

That's basically it.. that should get you 340-350rwhp... depending upon how light your car is it could be fast.. FYI, some of the 3000lb raceweight cars have run 10's with those and a nice tranny/convertor setup, with a nice rearend to follow it up, of course most have nice shocks/stronger control arms/better torque arm, etc.. the stuff you'd normally do if you want to go fast. Depending upon how light, some may have aftermarket k-members/a-arms and strange brakes and the like.

If you want to go a little further than that, you can consider something like a camshaft and valvesprings... this with the boltons is called cam only.

As you can see you could probably run 6's on motor with either one of the setups with enough work and a light enough car..

If you want to then consider a cam/head package here's what a few of those have done:

1. Juggernaut 9.900@134.27; 01 Z28 Camaro (346); T-400; 5000 stall; H/C; 2880lbs; 2005
2. Magnus 9.973@132.78; 97 Firebird (346); LGM H/C; 2900lbs; 11/05
3. Six Speeds Inc 10.110@134.75; 02 Camaro (346); M6; Spec Stg 4; H/C; 3150lbs; 10/06
4. Coach 02 A3 Z/28 10.200@128.72; 02 Z28 Camaro (346); T-350; 5000 stall; LME H/C; 3185lbs; 2007
5. Smokin01ta10.219@132.29; 01 TA (346); M6; Spec4; Stock/TRex; 3010lb; 3/06
6. ROBZ* 10.223@a133.59; 03 Z06(346); M6; AMR H/C; 3300lbs;4/26/08
7. WS6TransAm01 10.326@132.35; 01 TransAm (346); M6; CARTEK Clutch; CARTEK 4X heads/cam; 3300lbs; 12/07
8. TTPMatt 10.35@129.42; 98 Camaro (346); TH350; 5500 Stall; TTP Stage 4R Heads/Cam; 3140lbs; 05/07
9. Torkman15 10.372@132.70; 00 SS Camaro (346); M6; Spec Stg 4; H/C; 3400lbs; 08/06
10. YO-EL 10.49@129.38; 00 Corvette (LS2-366); A4; Vig 3800; CARTEK H/C; 3540 lbs; 12/07

These of course are all N/A.. with nitrous there's no telling.. most people here don't spray giant shots like you SCF boys do, but a few have ran 250 direct ports on the stock short block relatively safely.. I think the average person stops at a 150 to the wheels shot just to be safe.. I know several guys have done 150 wet and 75 dry with great success..

Some guy up in augusta runs the stock rearend, stock transmission w/ a shift kit and a nice stall in a street car that weighs quite a bit and runs like 10.20's with a nice sized cam, the boltons and a 150 wet 75 dry. But his car is pretty heavy, plus has 2.73 gears (lol).

In any event if that's what your interested in, that is what is capable... you can probably beat a lot of these numbers if you get it light enough, I seem to recall a nitrous'd 6.0 truck motor going 8's in a coupe on a small shot a year or two ago, but it was only 2500lbs and was a essentially a shell.

The 6.0 is iron block and weighs a little more, but I've seen them sell for under $1000. I would ditch the 4l60e and go th400/th350 or power glide if your light enough. If you don't mind spending the money, get the ls1 it's lighter, but again, 6.0 is cheaper and not that much heavier (50-75lbs?).
I'd think a hefty shot, heads/cam car with the right chassis and all being right could run low 6's pretty easy, and I think some f-bodies have gotten that already. The reason you see a lot of em blow up here locally is your normal idiocy: sticking solenoids, some refuse to ditch the stock crappy fuel pump on big shots, and some just try to take a kit way out of what it's designed to do.. like running big shots on a cheap wet kit that obviously isn't going to distribute properly and end up running lean and taking some stuff out.

I don't know if it'd be your fastest option, and it sounds like a heck of a lot of work, but it could be fun.

Later,
Josh

I dont mean to really dissapoint you, but bonz I think you have your story twisted. If you think Ford products are so great, then why not use a ford motor? It did come with a factory rated 220hp!!! LMFAO. What a MONSTER!!! It doesn't make sense to me to talk **** about another product when you want to use that product in your car. I honestly think it would be a fast car.

^^^^ mostly stock? That could be anything. I believe a stock 5.0 mustang was a mid 14 second quarter mile car at best. The 4th gen f-body was tested at mid 13's. That to me looks like the heavier f-body with what you two are calling a lsturd is faster. You two are just digging a deeper hole for yourselves, because you keep saying ford is better ford is better, but you want to use a LS1 powerplant? That doesn't make too much sense to me. Im done arguing with you. Its like arguing with two kids that wear a helmet all the time.

I would take a fox body stripped out with a LS1 6 spd....its like the best drag strip platform possible...you have to admit foxbodies are good in a straight line......but I'd only drive it at the strip, cause I wouldn't want to be caught driving it much of anywhere else.

no take a 87 mustang and a 78 CRAPARO sp? who would win

but if you want to compare different years then go grab a new Mustang vs new Craparo sp? O yeah you can't they don't make them SORRY

uh,that was true in the 80's..when the LT1 came out in the camaro in 93,it was game over for the mustang,at least in the 1/4..
but seriously, when i had my bolt on only,A4 LS1 Z/28 at the track, the mustangs were busting there *** just trying to get in the low 14's-high 13's.it took spray or H/C for the mustangs to even come close to me.and i was running high 12s at the time, stock converter, no less..it was actually funny, these guys were accusing me of spraying to get that fast,lol..
but in the 1/8 mile, they were almost neck and neck with me...with traction those little stangs would come off the line quick, but then again i had 3.23's and a stock converter,so mine was a TURD,off the line anyway..
