Well today I got off early and started to tear down the camaro for the cam and stuff..... got the water pump off, and then the valve covers and found this.........
There is a **** LOAD of old gunky oil build-up like this as you can see.....
So now I am at a point of weather or not just to take the motor out and freshen it up or what....any suggestions.....
I have to take the heads off and clean them up at the minimum.....hopefully i will get to take the k-member out tomorrow and check the bottom-end.....
For those of you that know me know how meticulous I am about my car....oil is changed ALWAYS ahead of schedule...usually at 2000mi.....I guess the previous owner didnt take care of the engine as well as the rest of the car.....
M1 has been used in it once in the last 20k(thats what the dealer put in it right before I bought the car), its always been syntec. This does explain why my oil looks like absolute **** after a few hundered miles.....

Even the springs were caked and the only reason I found it was cause it would smoke at idle on a hill. You couldn't even tell springs were springs
Guess drainbacks were closed in the back of the heads causing oil to get past the seals?? Scraped it all out while using a shop-vac and ran a wire down drainbacks and truck ran perfect for 45k + (217k) until somebody pulled out in front of me and totaled it. Depends on what you wanna do?? Might wanna try it?

Might wanna try it? I would certainly take the motor out of the car. Can easily be done either from top or bottom. Before I put any new parts on it I would clean it all out and find somewhere to get the motor hot tanked. Then scrub it all over with some hot soapy water and a engine brush set to clean all of the journals and passages again before putting it back in the car. Would also invest in a oil filter cutter. Do a few oil changes a few hundred miles apart once its running again and cut the filters to see whats going on in there.
