Those definitely help; thanks man! Now that I'm back in town I'll be grinding it down soon.

Not talking about the crank snout. Talking about the part that's all inconsistently chewed up between the crank snout and the crank seal. In this pic: http://zigzautonotes.googlepages.com/chewed_crank_2.jpg just to the right of the crank key you can see where it's smooth and then just kind of broken off into a big rough groove. That is NOT how it's supposed to look.

Ive been runing a rollmaster double roller for about 4 years. I just checked out my crank, and you can see where the chain links were making marks on the crank. It only hit in a few spots.

Awesome pic, thanks ss. is the crank sprocket seated all the way in that pic? looks like it's starting to be pulled off a little but hard to tell

Default got the crank ground down

turns out it was a tight fit, but i actually could use the dremel pretty well. a dremel seems to be easier to control in tight spaces than an angle grinder.

anyway it took a while; took me an hour and a half or so to get the raised part ground down all the way around. here are the pics, i left them large so you could see detail better:

I think it looks/feels much better than what I had before. Fingers crossed!

The play-dough did a pretty good job of keeping the tiny metal shavings out. You just have to watch it in the garage because after a few days it will harden and crack.

I haven't installed the timing set yet. Needless to say I'm nervous. Wish I could do it right now but I'm exhausted. I will be glad when it's Friday...

No problem. Its on there all the way. I must have a older version than yours. My gear and the piece that drives the oil pump is one piece

Thumbs up got it!!!!

FINALLY got this thing in. After grinding it down, it cleared a LOT better.

I'll be honest though, it was still really difficult to install. I was at it for another 2 1/2 hours. Had to turn the crank sprocket some and that seemed to help.

Torqued the three cam bolts to 26 ft lbs and the only thing I was concerned about was the little cam pin. I thought it would potrude farther, but I think this is as far as it goes. It felt like it was installed properly so hopefully the engine doesn't blow up!

Thanks again guys, I could not have done this without your pics and info.

Next up, oil pump.
