AIR Removal
I have looked through the posts and found a great walk through....my question is what exactly differs on a 2000 SS from earlier years, and what is needed to completly remove the AIR system
It wasn't on earlier year models. 00-02 only. You have to remove the pump from under the driver's side headlight, all the various tubing etc. You need blockoffs for the manifolds and you have to plug the vacuum line behind the intake. Also, you have to get the computer re-programmed or live with the check engine light. Good luck.
air and egr were on 98-02 cars. 01+ cars are the ones lacking egr.
10mm socket for the bolts on the exhaust manifold and 8mm i believe for the access panel and bolts (4) holding the air pump to the car. be sure to have 1.5' worth of extensions, also. might as well remove egr while you are at it. just need a 1 3/8" expandable plug for the egr hole in the intake (of you still have the ls1 intake).
i simply cut the line off of the air/egr fittings where they bolt to the manifold, stuck a penny (i would recommend a quarter as the penny is hardly big enough) under the fitting and bolted it back down. my 2 cent egr/air block off plates. reused the gaskets, works perfect. if i did it again it would cost me 50 cents haha.

Actually the above posts are incorrect. Air pumps have been coming on F-bodies since the 80's. ALL 98-02 LS1's have them as well.
Removing the pump & hardware is easy.
-Pull of your two hoses that go to your manifolds (or headers), held on by (2) 10mm bolts.
-Then begin removing the hoses from around the back of the intake, etc. If your car has one of those evap valves on the back driver's side of the intake, they're kind of a bitch to get off but come off. Pull your hoses off of it, then unbolt the bracket that holds it on.
-Go up under the car and take down the flap right below your driver's side foglight (2 10mm bolts). There you'll see the pump. Disconnect the connector, and unbolt the pump (3 10mm bolts).
-After the pump is out, go ahead and remove the bracket (basically dead weight at this point). Held on by (4) 10mm bolts
-Pull all your hoses out, remove the long hose that runs along side your driver's fender, cap up your AIR fittings on your manifolds/headers, and you're done.
