Default Piston Damage

Hey guys I went to the track about a month ago and though I popped a head gasket due to the car backfiring constantly and haven't had much time to tear the car apart until now. I lifted the driver side head to discover this.

Any ideas what cause this!? My best guess is that I spun a shitty '98 rod and it took off from there but what do you guys think?

are you on the bottle? I had a similar issue on my 06 ram hemi. something in the intake manifold broke and caused the head damage like you have. My pistons were fine.

whatever happened it looks like detonation immediatly happened after. The valve looks really black. That sucks man : (. It's a good excuse to forge your stuff though. I wonder what made all the scraping stuff on the metal???

no spray for me but the car has ran warm a few times. My guess is a #7 ringland from lack of fuel.

Also forgot to mention the valve is probably so black because coolant got all in the oil and fried the plug and the cylinder ect.

It looks like that cylinder went lean. Maybe a bad injector ??

it could be a bad injector, how would I be able to help you guys identify the problem better?

You could get the injectors flow tested. Is there a shop around there that could do it for you?

I'm sure there is a shop close by that will do it over the winter while the car is down, just for an extra piece of mind.

i think when you got it hot maybe the ring ends butted up together, and pulled on the top of the piston. that is why it took the chunk out of the piston.

nope, just pulled it from the bottom and cleaned up for the day, sometime this week I'll remove the trans and accessories and then slap in on the stand and rip it open to observe the damage, I'm hoping to reuse the block and crank. The cylinder wall seems to be fine aside from a very small groove where the chunk probably dug in just a tad.

I'd find an already assembled short block from tsp. They seem to have the best prices.

Money Money and more money, all of which I don't have right now Kind of tough to build a big motor when your 22 with your own house, newlywed, and have a kid on the way. I need cheap alternatives guys, if indeed there are any.
