Default LS6 or LQ4

Well I'm doing a motor build on the SS

I picked up a LS6 block for dirt cheap and I was told that it has 8K TOTAL on the motor, looks great.

I have both front and rear cover, and a stock 5.3 crank, and some 5.3 heads.

My question is, should I just go ahead a look for a LQ4 block or build the LS6?

If you already have the ls6 block, I don't see why you would change now.

My opinion though is that if starting from scratch the 6L block is the way to go since GM performance has shifted to 4" and bigger bore.

I'd stick with the LS6 block unless you plan on turning it into an all out drag car. Remember that LQ4 will make your F body even more front heavy and if you care about handling at all i'd do the LS6.

LS6. I'm in the same situation. I found a good deal on a 6.0 but I've already got the shortblock built on my 5.7. I'm just going to pass along the deal to a buddy.

The ls6 block is 85# lighter, small bore, can't use L92, heads, If you can reach you goals with the ls6, keep it!! If it's Forced induction go iron block.

There is only 65 lbs difference in the iron LQ4 and the aluminum LS6 block...I say go for cubes I just brought mine home yesterday..Get a tube K-member, **** can the ABS and your right back to where the weight of the car was to from the start..At least that is my plan now..I don't know what you have done if anything to the 5.3 heads but toss in a larger intake dont mill at all and run a .51 head gasket gets you 11.??-1

That is all thats done to mine right now P&P, had the spring seats enlarged to 1.55, when I get them pulled I am gonna take the stock 2.00 vavles out of my 317 casting and have them fit into the 5.3 heads.
