dont know if anyone remembers TSP goes to the dyno, I contacted them about a combo I was looking at that they tested, indiviual results may vary, but ths is what im going with . Fast 92 mm throttle body, Fast 92 mm intake, PRC 5.3 Stage 2.5 heads. 100mm MAF, TSP 1 7/8 inch headers, 228R cam. made 538hp on engine dyno.

I use this combination on my street/strip 02 Z-28. Stock Short Block, unported 90MM fast, 90MM Nick Williams, 25% underdrive crank pulley,
Kooks Stepped Headers, 4" Mufflex, A4 with PT4000 Yank.
Idles nice at 850 RPM, Pulls good up to 6500 RPM
Very streetable with some chop at idle
Runs 11.60's with 1.63 60' times
Hope this helps.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay getting in here. We were at the shootout last week and just got back in town early this morning.
For what the original poster is looking for, I would probably go with the 228R cam with the PRC 2.5 5.3L heads. Reason being, the cam will be extremely streetable yet still net you good power. The cam is typically worth a solid 45-50 RWHP over the factory LS1 camshaft and it doesn't sound as aggressive as some of the larger cams on the market. The car will be able to start up, sit in traffic, idle with A/C on, etc. without issues once it is properly tuned. The added compression and smaller 220cc runner of the 5.3L heads matched with this cam will make for a broad, usable powerband which will work well for both steet and stip use.
If you are thinking you might want a little more aggressive sounding cam, I would probably point you in the direction of a Torquer v.3 cam. It too showed very nice results from our engine dyno tests last month. It too produces a broad powerband but will have better midrange and peak numbers than a 228R cam. Also, it will sound more aggressive at idle being you are stepping up a bit in duration as well as the 111 LSA.
Either way you aren't making a bad choice. It will just come down to what you are looking for out of the car. Shoot me a PM or give me a call when you have a minute and I will help answer any questions you have and we can kick around ideas of what will work best for you.
Thanks!

I just talked to the guys at TSP and they suggested the 5.3 stage 2.5 with the 228 cam for one of the best street friendly combo around... great lower end power without loosing any top end power...they suggested a 3200 or 3600 vert for the best performance..

The 228R camshaft & PRC 5.3l heads makes great power & is a proven combo for street friendly setups!
Here's a dyno sheet comparing several different heads with the 228R camshaft!!

nice flow sheet. i don't think that TSP talks up the 5.3's cause of the money issue. i saw someone else write that and TSP got pissed and said it wasn't true, although i don't know.
