Default LS1 intake vs LS6 intake... hmmmm

I've looked all over the internet boards about how people could get an LS1 intake for about $30 and an LS6 intake for $360. Yet the gains are still kind of on the small side regarding a full bolt on car. I've seen rwhp numbers ranging from +5 to +10 over a stock LS1 intake. On a heads and cam car, the gain is still slightly larger averaging in the +10 to +20 range. Is that really worth the money for just that much extra hp? How many rwhp is the stock LS1 intake capable of supporting? Would the intake be ok in a heads/cam 11:1 compression 6.0L LQ4 going in my Vette one day?

Well, a lot of people do spend the 300.....guess why? Because it really is worth it. Dollars/HP, it's not a bad deal at all.

They're only worth what people will pay. So they must be worth $300+. Why would anyone pay much for an LS1 intake, since they pretty much all have that or better?

LOL at the LS1 intake over an LS6; its an easy mod and really worth it. In the end, you'll need these 20hp to break good numbers. Every mods count in the end. In fact, the LS6 intake is basic mod.

Yes, you could do a cam swap and get better gains, but it'll be pricier and complicated than just throwing an intake. You'll be sry you dont have the LS6 and after that, you'll want the Fast intake...

To me it seems like most start with a whole engine, which would have a minimum ls1 intake on it. I might be mis understanding, but are you building a ground up motor or starting with an LS powered car? Even the LS1 can be modified, but if your goal is a 500rwhp car, you should squeeze every bit out. If thats the case, go aftermarket. If you're doing a budget build, you can work with the LS1. I'm slowly upgrading stuff on my '98 LS1 and keeping the old. When I finally goto a 408 or other new block, I'm putting the old stuff in a 70's T/A.

Never heard of anyone who changed out their LS6 for an LS1 intake. The gains are worth it

It's worth the money. There's a reason why the LS1 intakes go for $30-50 and the LS6 intakes go for $300+

where did you get an 85mm opening for the ls6 done at? i've seen TPIS does a 90mm conversion for $350, but never seen an 85mm for $150. i'm thinking about sending mine for a 90mm from TPIS and saving $500+ over a fast

Custom, from R&D parts from TPIS (from 7 years ago). I got the mouth from an acquaintance working there and did the work in my garage.

A LS6 intake will give you 14-17 HP over an LS1 intake and will make any other mods that you add in the future perform better too...it is cheep HP for $300...it was the first mod I did to my LS1 ...
